Looks like very similar topics of discussion threads going on in the Home Decorating & Design Conversations forum. I didn't notice any decorating & design talk going on there.

What's the back story? Did this group split off from KT because of some rift or something?

There's also a Home Decorating forum. http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/decor/

Conversations side is for ... conversations. Has always existed ... or at least since Conversations forums were created by GardenWeb many years ago. When Houzz took over they eliminated some of them. The one on Cooking is gone.

Garden web was first on ivillage, which nbc purchased in 2006, until in 2013, i village was swallowed by today.com, which at around 2014 decided to drop( yes up for sale but no longer wanted by nbc) the GW forum. GW went live on houzz in Jan. 2015. Gw was looking for a new server to Save it, because short of a purchase today.com no longer planned to sustain it and that is why houzz was able to acquire it. Really, dispersing only half of stories and the side you like is misleadingly unhelpful. Also not acknowledging houzz' prompt response and repair to our gripes is plain rude. blfenton, I never did the three step sign up thing the other day maybe that is why it was back on my page.

Do you have a box in the upper left-hand corner that says "Your Topics"? I was able to add Home Decorating Conversations there. There's an edit button, and if you go down to "All Topics", they are arranged alphabetically. I don't seem to be as traumatized by the change as everyone else. My work laptop flipped to Houzz format only a long time ago, while my home laptop inexplicably stayed with the GardenWeb format. I've been flip-flopping between the two for a long time.

Totally hijacking here I have a 40" 8 shaft Toika Eeva countermarche floor loom from Finland. A 27" Louet, Jane, 8 shaft table loom on a stand, from Holland. I just resently brought home 60" counter balance LeClerc, Canadian, floor loom, Mira, with 4 shafts. I have woven lots of family gifts. I wove a wool and mohair blanket double width weaving for my DS2 and DIL2. It came out 100"x70" and fits on a queen bed. I also wove a smaller wool blanket that DD1 uses as work to keep warm in her cold office. I don't have a picture of my DD1 blanket, but i submitted it to the Iowa State Fair and got 2nd place in the blanket division. The blanket below wasn't done in time to submit. But it was done for the wedding. Wedding Blanket, fuzzy mohair: ETA this closeup of the tassels: Wedding Shawl out of silk and merino wool: Closeup of the random tassles in silk and wool. In this pic the tassles still need trimming at the ends. This picture makes me want to just scrunch it up to my face, lol

Many of us post and read in both conversation forums. As CindyMac said, 'conversation' sides to some forums have been around for many years.

Exactly right. It isn't meant to replace the KT. It is simply a place separate from discussions about decorating where folks on that forum can feel free to discuss anything else. Some have also come over here (like me recently) but many have not. I found that forum a long time before I found this one. No rift.

HD Conversations is where the "regulars" at HD forum, people who are all quite interested in Home Decorating and Design, have become friendly with each other, but want to have a place to have "off (decorating) topic" conversations. Lots of people go to HD to ask for help or advice, but they don't really stick around much after that. There is a core group (quite large) that participates on both sides and some of us check Kitchen Table, too.

I always check out HD's Conversation side as I make my way through the GW forums and post if I have anything to contribute. Also "Smaller Homes" has become more or less a conversation forum too.

I enjoy reading and being on both Kitchen Table and the conversation side of Home and Decorating. No rift. When Houzz took over GW the conversation side didn't follow and we had to demand it.
