They flop in my garden as well. I tried to stake them individually, but since I had a whole bunch of them that I had started from seed, it was a pain and they just didn't look right staked up. I found these wire "fences" at KMart and they have been incredible for keeping everything that wants to flop in check. There are 5 sections so sometimes I separate if I just need one to hold up a plant, or sometimes I surround a huge plant like catmint with 3 sections. So easy and makes staking a cinch. I would most highly recommend these if you can find them. The thin wire blends right into the plants and they are much more sturdy than they look. There are sections of the little fencing in amongst these and you'd never notice it. Everyone who has been thru my garden and seen my new staking technique runs to KMart when they leave! These amsonia usually flop to the driveway. They are all held up with sections of the fencing. What I like is that with the fencing, the plants still have a flow and look natural instead of being cinched up with stakes, twine, etc..... Sorry, didn't mean to get off-topic but your question about pyrethrum reminded me of my floppy ones and how I solved the problem. I love them in the garden. Based on the excellent pruning job my woodchuck has been doing on them this year it is unlikely I'll need to stake them!

It's non-cultivar cousin (Common Tansy) is an obnoxious weed in these here parts of the US. I keep one just for the use of bringing in pungent smelling leaves and dried flower parts indoors around harvest time in fall....deters field mice from entering and sticking around. I wouldn't dream of letting it go to seed or giving it more water than nature provides as it's an aggressive re-seeder and spreads underground via runners. I'm not convinced 'Isla Gold' is better behaved!! Vera

Image by: wintersown Dried Seed Heads (Also called Tanacetum parthenium) Feverfew flowers look like small and delicate shasta daisies. The central eye of the flower is where the seeds develop. Allow the flowers to mature and their petals to drop naturally. The central eye will swell with maturing seeds. When they are ripe it will turn light brown in color, the stem beneath the seed head will also brown. The seeds are easy to collect. Simply strip off the dried seed head, allow it to dry on a plate for a few days, and then crumble it with your fingers. It will break apart into many small light-wheat colored seeds. They are very tiny things, like bits of a thin line. There will be some chaff in with the seeds but it is also small. Good traders sends these seeds with chaff as it is so difficult to separate the two. Sowing the seeds is simple, pat them into the soil surface and ignore any chaff bits as they will not interfere with germination.

Ha! I think I have figured out some of the contradictions above (annual/perennial; reseeds massively/does not; invasive or not; woody or not; and the PICTURES!). We appear to be talking about 2 completely unrelated plants - chrysanthemum parthenium (aka tanacetum perthenium) and orlaya grandiflora. The former is a type of daisy (perennial), looks like a daisy, talks like a daisy, walks like a daisy, etc. The latter is an annual, looks related to Queen Anne's Lace. Look at the pictures - the ones posted by Irisgal directly above are orlaya grandiflora. The one posted higher up by Vickysgarden is a version of the daisy one. This is what we get for using only a common name - many totally unrelated plants have the same common name. Although when I looked on the web I must say that I never found any reference to orlaya gradiflora being called "feverfew", that does not mean it is not called that somewhere. Jackie
