Kitchens Facing Front of House
Comments (24)Hi all! Thanks so much for your feedback. If I knew how to post my layout, I would. We live on a quiet street in a cul-de-sac. Our house is a cape-cod and the front and back both have slight overhangs that make it a challenge to get a lot of light. Our windows in the kitchen (both the picture window and the small one over the sink) have plantation shutters, which are beautiful but I feel that they block out light. So, I'm always playing with them- trying to maximize privacy while letting in the most amount of light. The other thing that bothers me is how the picture window and small window over the sink look from the exterior. I think it would look much nicer if we had standard windows that matched the other side of the house (our living room and dining room face front as well). Most of the neighbors homes are setback off of the cul-de-sac but ours is not. Kids play in the cul-de-sac and people walk their dogs (our family included). I've just had a few odd moments where I've made eye contact with people on the street when I'm in the kitchen and it makes me feel like a nosy neighbor! Landscaping might be the most ideal solution. In fact, I might just plant a tree now, well ahead of our reno plans just to see if it works!...See MoreQuick advice regarding new sod, please!
Comments (6)Is your landscaper a professional with a brick and mortar store or a guy with a sign on his truck? Because his advice to water for an hour every day is crazy. Gomez is right about watering a few minutes several times a day for a few weeks. Then start to back off on the frequency and go up on the time. You need to know what kind of grass he put down. If it was Kentucky bluegrass sod, then the grass will spread to fill the gaps. If it was a fescue lawn, then you'll need to sand between the gaps and drop more fescue seed. Find out what kind of fescue it was so you can match the seed....See MoreGrateful for any advice regarding my new home office....
Comments (19)As you decide where to place your desk, first know how the sunlight enters the room at all hours of the day. A glare is more than annoying. Sit in the chair you will use before buying it. Make sure your chair is comfortable, has a high back agaisnt which you could rest your head and with back support where you need it and with wheels ... because they're practical. Get an executive's chair ... because you've EARNED it. Suggest you do not place your desk against a wall in a way that makes a wall your "view" from where you'll sit most of the day. Consider putting one side of your desk against a wall in a way that keeps the glare from the window(s) from being a problem but enables you to look up and away from your computer (and out the window) frequently enough to keep your eyes from getting overly tired. If you are right handed, you might put the left side of your desk/table against the approximate center of the left wall so you can face the window. You could put a credenza on the wall behind you so the credenza would be usable with your right hand, doubling the size of your desktop. A new overhead light and/or wall sconces could save you desktop space. Do swap out the ceiling fan for one with a light so you're not dependent upon only lamps for light during the shortest, darkest days....See MoreI need advice on new house color and trim color to go with the brick!
Comments (12)Is the trim around the windows paintable? I ask bc you’ve got a lot of things going on between the front door color, the siding and the brick. The trim around the windows further distracts....See MoreKaren Knupp_Dover
