Need help with awkward kitchen wall

I am ordering cabinets for my kitchen and I am struggling a bit with the penninsula wall...I am not changing the layout at all...I am just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what else I can do with this wall. I need to have some glass or open shelves here because I have some really pretty dishes I inherited that I want to display. I am just not sure about the angled cabinet to the far left. It will be functional for the person sitting on the stool below, but I'm not sure if I love how it looks..any ideas?? Also, I will not be able to have any pendant lights at the penninsula with the wall cabinets here... The width of the penninsula is only about 75"W. I'd love any lighting or wall cabinet ideas. Thanks!

Comments (20)Yes -- a BIG vote for re-doing the whole door -- remove the moldings; replace the door itself with a better fitted one and invisible latches etc. Then -- paint out the full length of that wall -- and add a very long unframed modern artwork -- check out shops like Homegoods and T.J. Comments (20)Okay, here are two more ideas, with windows and doors in existing locations, plumbing untouched but with the gas line moved. These plans use Ikea cab sizes (rounded up, obviously). I spec'd a CD fridge in both plans to avoid crowding the back door. I eliminated the peninsula and swapped it for an island with room for 2 seats. Eliminating the peninsula allowed me to move the range down the wall, giving you more prep room between sink and range. The island is composed of a counter supported by 2 legs at the lower end and an upper cabinet serving as a base cabinet at the top end (check Ikea hacks, this has been done before). The lower end of the island is open for seating like this [Transitional Kitchen[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/transitional-kitchen-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_709~s_2112) by Charleston Cabinets & Cabinetry K & K Custom Cabinets LLC Plan D adds a peninsula for seating opposite the fridge. The 3 cabinets in the lower left corner are upper cabs used as base cabs. Stack an additional 12" and 24" on top of the bottom 2 to create a shallow pantry. The 24" cab below the window is only one high, topped with counter. You can eliminate the doors and have a bookcase/display case here instead. The top side of the peninsula has one each 12" and 30" wide base cabs, facing the fridge, for more storage and serving as counter support. The peninsula has room for 3 seats with ample aisles behind the seats. I curved the lower right end of the counter overhang. Comments (13)removing windows and putting in a door is easier than vice versa. remove the brick, frame out the area for the door, install. if you want to bring up the floor level,(what do you plan on doing w/the fireplace? you would have to redo it and the book cases) for the new floor, they would have to lay joists, sub floor, and flooring to even it out to the other. At this point I would advise you to replace all of that white tile and do the same flooring throughout the first level. can you match the wood you have in the other room? .Oh, demo of all that tile? 1-2 K (can't see how much you have) remove a window and install french doors, about 2-4K. building a banquette? have no idea. 1-2K? new table, custom made cushions, etc. I don't mind the sunken part. I'd do the french doors and close off that other door by the nook. would be cool if you could extend that whole side of the house further out another 6-10 feet. I'd rather do that than raise the floor level. i'd also widen your stair area leading down. on the living side, you could do something like this w/stair sides (little built ins) install a cool beam above it: or move the stairs to one side If you replaced your windows w/doors, you could do one large sofa, and place the two chairs as you come down the stairs. (that's why it might be nice to move the stairs off to one side, gives you a bit more space. or try this layout. you may have enough room to walk behind the other sofa in front of the doors.
