Our home in KS is so dark. Beautiful but all brown!
Comments (47)If you focused on some greens and lots of whites in your furnishings and even some certain green on white, trellis prints in drapes or roman shades, over time, that will make your home look like a lovely garden. Than you can accent with the colors of your favorite flowers. You have a lovely home, you just have fun making it yours!! No one goes into the Forest and talks about removing all the trees and planting only bright annuals, that bloom for a few weeks. They marvel at the height and breadth of the trees! and may add some bulbs here and there where the sun allows. Bring is some brighter white lights in areas as you can and just love the fun you have doing soo. Such a work of many craftsmen is your home! It's done by humans, so flaws may show up. Some might bug you and other may not. As long as your warm in the winter and cool in the summer you have shelter, and thus time to go through phases of your home redecorating....See MoreLeave brick as-is or whitewash it?
Comments (31)Two ideas: Take your spare bricks to the best local paint store for recommendations. Try different treatments on them. Several coats of clear finish may be all that's needed to dramatically improve the cleanability. Reserve a spare piece of your countertop material to be recut in the same size as the herringbone accent, should you want to protect that area later. The pot filler can probably be adjusted to fit. Check with the manufacturer to see if the material is recommended for the heat exposure behind the stove (not all of them are suitable)....See MoreColor Dilemma - Awning and Deck for brick house
Comments (7)How about a cross between a grey/brown like SW Urbane Bronze? It's a very sophisticated color and could play nicely with the brick and roof. Paint the trim a cream color? I dislike stark white trim and agree with apple that it's a pain to keep clean. Cream would at least be a little more forgiving. Choose one of the blues for the front door. That teal appears to be too dark (wish I could see it because I'm painting mine a teal color!) Maybe go with the "Rain." Whatever you do, paint sample boards first!...See MoreHelp with paint color on siding on 1989 house with brown brick
Comments (13)I tried a few options; these are the ones I liked best. In each I've darkened the panels around the door, added planters, turned the entry lights on, and changed all trim that is adjacent to the brick to a bronze color that stands out less. The rest of the trim is unchanged. (I tried light/white trim and didn't like it as well, but others might.) Other than these changes, the first photo is as is, with the existing siding color. The others show the siding lightened but still beige, and then two versions of the current sage green trim color, just lightened a little more and a little less. (By the way, there are some contributors here who are absolutely brilliant with color advice, but I'm not one of them! Hopefully they will chime in too.)...See MoreJudyG Designs
