Thank you Maureen, I will incorporate your suggestions. Is there a way I can make the rug work, it is brand new and also my fireplace is quite high and placing the tv on it will make view impossible. Is there anything else I can do.

Much as I hate TVs in front of windows, this looks like the only place yours can go. However, I would replace the console it's on with something longer and more substantial, put the new console flat in front of the window and just angle the TV. Add curtains (the same ones on the picture window) to the windows on the fireplace wall.

If you really want new couches, go with a lighter gray or beige found in your rug. Those dark couches do suck all the light out of the room.

Lose the flower arrangement in the corner. Replace it with an end table that the sofa can use. Then pull your new sofas closer together around a coffee table that both can reach.

Taking a second look, I would replace the sofa and loveseat with a sofa and two chairs.

I can't see another spot for the tv, but maybe you could use a unit that fits into the corner and it will look more finished and your prints would work well on the left. Could you try turning your rug horizontally and then pull in your couch, so there is more space behind seating and dining set and will make more sense being closer when you add a coffee table. Instead of centering the couch under the window...could it be moved down and then place the single chair in that corner - if too crowded, can it go into another room. If you decide to centre the console with art above, make sure the art is hung quite low and re-accessorize for a more impactful look.

I suggest the TV on the right side of the fireplace with an enclosed cabinet to store TV items. Then have sofa face TV and fireplace, and add a a pair of chairs on either side of the sofa, possibly on swivels and another reading chair snug in the corner where the TV is now. Ottoman in center of room.

Pull your rug away from the fireplace. You should be able to see floor all the way around the edges. I didn't add curtains because I couldn't match the ones you have.

I like the idea of moving the tv to the right corner, but the curtain will be directly behind the tv. Is there a way to make that work maybe using floor tv stand with mount. Do you think that would work. Thank you

thanks, groveraxle, I don't like the black sofas at all. I will probably try using sofa covers based on your recommendation to cover them up for now. Then buy new sofas when the kids are older.

What lights are you wanting to replace? The ceiling lights?

I would add a floor lamp in the corner to the right of the fireplace.

the ceiling lights. if you look at the pictures, you will see the ceiling lights, which I would like to replace. The ceiling lights you see in the pictures are the same as the ones I have in my living room.

Jami, can you give us a photo of the ceiling lights in the living room? Are they track lights or boob lights? Need to see how many and where they are.

In the meantime, I changed the color of your sofa so you could see how tan and ivory would look in the room.
