Junk it or repair?

mrs. worthy called me for a tow truck a couple of days ago. For some mysterious reason, she couldn't get the car to move any further.

Towed it back home and the next day I ventured off to the garage. One km down the road, the temp gauge spiked. Stopped to check. No coolant whatsoever. Filled it and drove the km back. Ditto.

Turns out, some minor leak originally caused the overheating. She paid no attention to that pretty red light and in due course destroyed the motor on a cherry '08 Infiniti EX35 AWD fully loaded as she had specified.

If the garage can find a low mileage motor, they figure at least $3,000 plus installation. Worth it on a 180,000 km vehicle that would've fetched $8K? Or lasted many more years--our older daily drivers (besides me!) include an '06 Cayenne S, '04 Ram Hemi shortbox and a '96 Mustang GT. I'm leaning to the replacement motor, if he can find one. And swear her next vehicle will be battery powered! So fewer moving parts to ignore.
