Wednesday blooms - another cool and dewy morning

Here is what was brave enough to open during my 8:30am walkabout. All are FFO.

CLOWN PARADE - always reliable to be open. Looks to give another great show this year with all the scapes and buds.

INCA APOTHECARY- I've noticed it has scaled back in scapes this year.

FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN - yes, it is this intense color and always has been. I got this from the Lily Farm a couple of years ago. Second pic of the entire plant.

INCA PUZZLE - not the best pic but it did have some splotchiness. Has a lot of scapes and buds so hoping for an opportunity for a multiple bloom shot soon.

BROADWAY SPARKLER - such a small flower and I've sat on the fence whether to keep or let it go. I'm more partial to larger blooms.

DESERT SHORE - a gift from Curt a couple of years ago. I'd like to see better increase so on the fence whether to keep or not.

PRAGUE SPRING - got it groove back this year. Was already starting to open yesterday evening.

MISTER LUCKY - I've wanted to eliminate this one for the past 2 years only because it hangs up on opening. Must have heard me muttering about it yesterday so today, it proved it could be good. Let's hope it stays that way.

Last post is two seedlings blooming from a cross of LBB x RFK (Lavender Blue Baby x Rose F. Kennedy) that I've grown from a couple of years. Not seeing a lot of RFK nor LBB in them. Reminds me of Worth It All though.

That is it for today. One more day of good weather before the rain rolls back in along with humidity.

Maryl: Fire On The Mountain at 4:00pm today. I'm not sure in your heat, how it would hold up. It has been in full sun all day, we reached 84 by noon time.

My FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN appears to be a little more rose in the morning than yours. It may have something to do with the soil, morning temps, etc... As the day wears on and the temp increases I see a change to a more scarlet red. I also believe that my CLOWN PARADE will be opening on Thursday or Friday. Are you finding that your hems are on schedule or a little early? I feel that mine are about a week early this year.

How marvelous to have all those buds ahead of you! My favorites here are Clown Parade and Fire on the Mountain. Your seedlings look pretty similar. I like the coloring and the sepal markings on the bottom one.

Thanks Tammy, I do think the defense will go ok though it will be very stressful. I'm not sure which way I'll end up doctoring in the end -- I used to think neurosurgery, and it's still really high on my list but I've been out of the hospital too long to feel very confident about predicting... chances are I'll be a specialist of some type. I'll try to remember to announce the defense over on conversations when I have a date. (or I can send you a blog invite, though you may not want to wade through my miscellaneous ruminations!)

Remy- It could be WISESTS OF WIZARDS but I don't know. There are a bunch of them that look too similar to me that I have which are MINSTRALS FIRE, LEE PICKLES and CONTINENTAL HOLIDAY. Of the three, the palest eyezone is in WISEST OF WIZARDS. Still even that changes from flower to flower. You can see that my two flowers were not exactly the same color and that was not a trick of the light. Here is CONTINENTAL HOLIDAY for comparison. I don't have pictures now of the others.

very slow starting... what i really need to do i don't want to..shampoo carpet...and do have a load of dh's work shirts to do...i do them seperately on a short cycle, so i don't have to iron...we found some really nice dress shirts at costco that are just as nice aa his old oxford cloth from kohls...who by the way, i've heard, arn't the same anymore... and need to write a thank you note to sil's gma..she was kind enough to send copy of photos of my dd and her dgs...will get that done for sure...

Very pretty again. Love Clown Parade! And it is going to be a show stopper from all the buds. Fire On the Mountain is a beautiful red. Your seedling is really pretty.

Thanks all for the comments. Soon I'll post pics of the gardens showing the progress of the season.

David: when I've gone back and looked at prior year pics, I thought we are a bit behind. However, this year, I'm seeing a lot of FFO's with multiple blooms. We are about 10 days away from a normal peak bloom (mid July). Ready for the next round of rain coming?

I got Inca Prince because of your pics, but has long been disappointing here. Slow growth and short scapes. We probably have greater temperature extremes without snow cover. Fire on the Mountain is an orange-red here. Grows well.

mantis: I haven't posted Inca Prince since it hasn't bloomed yet. It looks like it will start blooming in the next couple of days if not sooner. Scapes look good on it this year so I guess all this rain has been beneficial compared to last year.

Thanks Julia for the update on Fire on the Mountain. When we have 84 for a noon day temperature the weather people call it a "cold front", although the last week has been humid as heck, our temperatures have only been in the high 80's for the most part. We just had over 3 inches of rain over the week-end. The heat returns tomorrow.......I bought a new to me daylily based on your picture last year. When it opens (it has buds) I'll let you know how it does.............Maryl
