Hi Kathrine. It seems like you are well on your way to a solution already, but I would like to clear some of the fog. First, I would like to address oil and wax finishes. Although they do produce a decent finish, they take forever to cure, they will need to be renewed eventually, and they offer little to no protection (when compared to a film finish). In a kitchen, durability is usually the big concern and pure tung oil simply doesnt have a place there. Now if you have a nice antique hall table that you dont mind babying, tung oil and wax could be a good choice. But with the amazing array of beautiful finish options available today, its hard to believe tung oil (and boiled linseed oil), still find their way into our homes. That being said, I am glad you went with the Waterlox. Despite the incorrect information Minwax gave you, Waterlox is not all that different from a wiping polyurethane. Waterlox actually contains little to no tung oil at all. It does, however, contain a resin that is derived from oil and is a close relative to polyurethane. Many woodworkers like this particular resin better because it is less "plastic-looking" than standard polyurethane. So what you have actually done is exactly what I would have recommended: you top-coated your tung oiled surface with a wiping varnish. This varnish will give your cabinets the protection they need from oil, grease, heat, water, and cleaning agents. A level of protection that tung oil cannot provide. And one note to the folks who were discussing "food-safe" finishes. Nearly all film finishes are food safe once cured. If you are a bit skeptical, there are FDA-approved varnishes available (usually labelled salad bowl finish), that will offer much more protection and durability than oil and wax. @historian, 'up till 11pm' pfft, that's nothing! I've regularly done a 2am obsessing about various 'bits'. . But he's, on the mix of finishes and metals etc, I've done it. Stages sink, kohler vinnata tap in polished chrome and antique pewter knobs. Stainless steel fridge and freezer ( inox finish so hope less fingerprints) . I'm almost all done decision wise. Cabinets being delivered this week, fitter coming on Monday morning. Granite firm coming up from London and I live in Somerset to template for our marble. ( hence the forum name!) they are about three hours away not far for the USA but in little UK, that's the width of the island in driving time! ( chalon kitchen in last house and they organised the granite and used this company and they did an amazing job) have my tap, sink etc all waiting here. Crossing everything that the company can get back Before Christmas to install the marble. Otherwise it'll be a Christmas with no sink and plywood counters from the template! i really like your handles love the antique pewter finish!

Top Knobs does have an appliance pull, though (a) they only go up to 18" center-to-center, and (b) the pull I feel goes with these two pulls stylistically the best, while modernizing the space, doesn't have a great feel in my hand. I've tried it out. It's the Aspen II Flat-Sided Pull: Great looking but the flat edges are not as comfortable as I'd like for a fridge and dishwasher that I'll obviously use every day. The one that has a great feel in my hand looks... clunky with the other appliances, because the flange is oval and gets very large. It looks more rustic than the other hardware I've chosen:I realize I'm being a perfectionist, here, but, hey, it's not every day you renovate your kitchen and I'd like to get it just right.

Hey folks! So here's the update: I ordered latches from House of Antique Hardware and contractor installed over range and fridge. They look great! Function, ugh. Yes, I have to turn the knob to open them...but also they won't push closed so I have to turn the knob to close them! I have some in my dining room from Rejuvenation that you can push closed, so I ordered some of those in ORB. They're very similar, but slightly different shape and darker finish than the HOAH (Rejuvenation is top and HOAH is bottom). The size seems just off enough that the holes won't line up to easily change out the latches already installed. Now what to install where? Definitely want less latches than I thought, but I need to add some to go with the ones over range and fridge. Laundry area: pulls on the lowers, then Rejuvenation latches on top (I don't think will be noticeable that they're different): Fridge wall: Pulls on the appliance garage and lower pantry doors. OK to do pull on upper pantry door? I think the door above microwave needs a latch to go with the fridge--does it need to be the HOAH? Or do you think the Rejuvenation one is a close enough match (and would be easier to use)? Range wall for reference, though the drawers are all going to be pulls Thanks in advance!
