Advice needed from marble countertop wannabe owners…quartzite? help!
Comments (45)Thanks Lily Spider :) My inspiration photos all have marble counters lol!!! butI think I'm back on track again - I love classic and I wanted real stone so I think thats why I went the black granite route (though I guess this seems strange after considering marble!)… I've always liked honed black granite and I need to be somewhat practical re the kids - one of the reasons for the kitchen reno (besides the fact that we moved here a year ago and the current kitchen is awful) is to provide space for the kids to be able to 'eat in kitchen' at the peninsula during the younger years while they are still messy (i.e. dropping food everywhere) and to provide a place for them to color/hang out etc while I'm cooking…I don't want to be on top of them the whole time which is why I ruled out the stones that etched/stained/scratched - I think the black granite is a good compromise for me and usability for them and will work in well with the other components of the kitchen…thanks for getting me back on track Lily Spider (my husband almost had a heart attack when I said I was second guessing lol)...See MoreCounter advice, quartz vs quartzite/granite
Comments (23)As Anglophilia has, I can attest to the wonderful durability of Corian. My current kitchen has 30+ year old Corian and the kitchen being remodeled in the new house had Corian of about the same age and it looked great. With the remodel, however, I will most likely not go with Corian because I'm simply tired of it. Am leaning towards quartz or granite. Jennifer Hogan's post above has a wonderful comparison based on actual experience. Regarding baking buttery dough, Julia Child, on her original show on PBS, mentioned she had a piece of marble cut to fit her fridge. She placed it there to cool and then used it as a pastry board for rolling out dough. This was back in the day when pretty much the only choice was Formica or some other brand of laminate for a counter top. Also, get what you like and don't worry about when it will become dated. Don't fool yourself - whatever you pick WILL look dated in 20 years and maybe sooner. However, what comes around goes around. Even boomerang Formica has come back in style....See Morequartzite countertop fabrication questions before install
Comments (2)It all began when our 26 yr old refrigerator quit working. Our new one is larger and we had to remove cabinets to make it fit. Im seizing on the opportunity to change the cabinet color and countertops. My husband likes the raised bar. We replaced the cooktop, switched from black gas to silver induction. We have 3 young children and don’t want to redesign the entire kitchen due to cost and logistics. We are trying to plan as far in advance as possible so we can order products and hopefully not get caught up in supply issues. We painted all the common areas in the home Panda White. It works with our tile floors. Our entire downstairs has the same tile floor. The cabinets will match the wall color as we know it works with our floors. Now we need to select the countertop, sink and backsplash, hardware, faucet....See MoreMont Australian Pearl Quartzite / white lux QZ. advice please
Comments (7)Half my question is missing not sure why. I think I have my countertops narrowed down to my top two favorites. For a little background I live in an old farmhouse and I’m putting in white shaker cabinets in a long galley style kitchen -unfortunately I cannot have an island. I will be having a farm sink as well. I fell in love with Mont Australian pearl quartzite. I’m a little concerned about staing and wondering if anybody has this in their home and can give me any insight on how happy or unhappy you are??...See Morestacey6180
