Gawdawful cheap vinyl components all badly mulled in the field, maybe. A decent integrated unit with some actual structural stability, nope. And nope again.

Great... Ok will have to go for the cheap kind then. Not willing to double my allowance for something I walk through. Any sources?

Hardware and staining (three coats) were/are extra, but we will still stay under your budget.

A local Millwork place should be more affordable and can do what you want. Also, look at antique salvage places - I got great leaded glass sidelights at one in my town for $150.00 - perfect fit for my 1948 house.

Check out Sun Mountain doors. They have six locations throughout the country. Their headquarters is located here in Colorado. I have toured their factory and inspected their product. They make top quality doors.

If you are looking for paint-grade poplar, you can probably get a door for a little more than 1/2 your budget. I got a bid from Sun Mountain for a similar configuration to yours including two sidelights and a transom, but with a 3/0 x 6/8 door. The bid was about $3,300 for paint-grade poplar and $6,300 for solid cherry. I also got a bid from a mill located in Ohio for about $4,300 for the same cherry door configuration.

I don't understand millworkman and sophie. Anytime someone posts with a specified budget, they have to point out that it can never be had. In this case, they really don't know what they are talking about.

Doors are a very competitive business. You won't always get the best pricing from the big name outfits. Look for smaller manufacturers. As anglophilia pointed out, local shops can be quite competitive, especially when what you want is truly custom.

Maybe it is more location specific but that unit from even a local shop would cost more than that here.

We are sourcing our single fiberglass door from Pella, with side lights and transom with 3/4 light and upgraded hardware, it is well below your budget. Check them out. I do not yet have a door to share pics.

Simpson makes a nice wood door which should be in your budget. Hopefully you have a covered entry like the houses in your pictures. If not, be prepared for some frequent upkeep.

Poplar? For an exterior door?? SMH. This IS a case of you get what you pay for.

What would you use for a painted door? Cuban Mahogany?
