can you take a picture of the whole tree ?

The tree was top pruned last year and has a bit of a sprawling shape right now. Will have it properly pruned after harvest.

Any idea what variety? I'm in south Florida in case that helps. Would like to know what variety which will help in determining when to pick it.

I am not an avo guru.

I have never seen an avo fruit that looks like that one.

But, if you can answer the following question, you might get a pretty good idea if it can be ID'd.

Is the tree grafted or seed grown?

If seed grown, then because of the way avos reproduce, it is a hybrid of some type and is very unlikely to give fruit equivalent to the parent tree. Our experience with fruit from seed grown avo trees is that it is very likely to be stringy and /or watery, very rarely even near to being as good as fruit from the parent tree.

There are some that do look similar to yours.

Seeing as you are in South Florida, just like I am, you could probably find out at Pine Island Nursery located in homestead. They have an on line viewer that you can also look at, http://www.tropicalfruitnursery.com/variety-viewer-variety-avocado-reference-1. I go there quite often, to get what ever is in season. I have 4 avocado trees, and my only regret, is not planting the Russell. I have a Brogdon, Catalina, Choquette, and Doni. You might want to wait, for the avocado to ripen, before going.

It would be impossible to ID that avo positively. However, it certainly looks like an Indian variety. That does narrow it down a bit.

It is hard, but if it gets a longer thinner neck, could be a Russell. There are a lot of Catalina in South Florida, I even have one. They are very good. They sometime look like the Russells, but the size is less long. If it's any of those, you hit the jackpot, because both are good.
