Windows Design Dilemma living room

We are putting on a small family room addition (approx 18'x12'). The wall facing south is 18' and will have a bank of three large windows. The west facing wall that also faces the street has one window. We are considering removing the window on the east wall to make more room for a TV/book shelves/ etc.. but are worried about losing light. This room is open to the kitchen and dining room and the dining room has three windows & glass door facing east so i think there will still be plenty of light coming in. If we keep the window it doesn't leave a lot of space for the TV (about 4').

I think you'd be fine without. Maybe make the Windows smaller

+1. You would be surprised how much light comes in via a given area of glass. With a small'ish type room, a few medium sized windows should do the trick or incorporate some skylights into the equation.

We added a 16'x 20' addition 2 years ago. So, I can visualize for you. :) We didn't do double hungs--just sliders. But, here goes. The 4 all together will make it more "open" to outside. Spreading all four out, you will definitely know you have a wall. But, I think having 2 sets of 2 will be fine too. What are the plans for the "ends" of the room as for windows? And, how will you arrange the furniture in the room? (in other words, are corners going to be important?) I'll post up my long window wall in a bit for you.

Putting the 4 together would look more dramatic, while separating them would create usable wall space in between for a couch, tv, or whatever... I'd figure out how you want to lay out the furniture,ect and then go off of that.

Your windows are large enough that you will have a view from every seat. Float all of your furniture in front of the fireplace with front feet of all seating on a rug. That will help tie everything together. Be sure to keep your seating closer than shouting distance. This will be one fabulous room!
