Tiger swallowtail host plants question

Hello! I had a very old black cherry tree (Prunus serotina) in my yard that recently began splitting down the trunk, eventually cumulating in a large limb falling and crushing the fence. Long story short, the tree was cut leaving the trunk and no limbs. After the job I noticed a tiger swallowtail caterpillar on the fence behind the trunk. I know black cherry is one of the tiger swallowtail's host plants, so I figured it came from the now destroyed tree. Because there was nothing left for the little guy to eat, I moved him to a plum cherry (Prunus cerasifera) in my yard, figuring the two trees are in the same genus. Do you think the caterpillar will be able to feed on this?
