Question re: washer dryer install in cabinet
Comments (3)I'm also having my w/d moved from side by side to a closet (that is yet to be built). I will have my second meeting soon with my contractor and the w/d are high on my list of getting straight. Thanks to gardenweb - can't remember which forum - probably laundry), I plan to ask for a "panel" so that the water source can be reached and examined without pulling out both machines. My contractor has already mentioned that we need to make sure there is enough room in the closet for the dryer vent (to do its thing). He looked at my set up now in the kitchen where the vent requires about 5 or six inches. This is added to the depth of the closet which will of course include the physical depth of the machine.....See MoreWhat questions should I ask the cabinet installer?
Comments (8)I tried checking him out online. He does not have a website. Angieslist only has one review on him which is positive. Livewire I'll ask him some questions. What about putting color marker on cut seams? My cabinets are painted. I've seen some guys use furniture markers (if stained) on the edge of the cuts so bare wood does not show. He is supposed to come out to do the template next week. This is just to verify the measurements. Then it is Lowe's problem if a measurement issue arises. I also get a one year workmanship warranty. I had to pay $75 for him to do the template, but it will be deducted from my final invoice if I use him. There were a couple of reasons I decided to go with him instead of DIY. -Tax savings is the biggest. I would have to pay $800 in taxes. I realize I still have to pay $1325 for the install. I'm still debating on if it is worth it, since I have all the tools and like working with wood. -1 year warranty. I know I would level the base cabinets completely level. I just worry that some warranty issue with the granite countertop will arise, and they will say that it is a base cabinet issue. -If he makes a wrong cut, it is on him. He will need to replace the piece. -TIme involved. I would likely spend a lot of time making sure everything is level, plumb, square, etc. If he does it for a living, I would assume he would be able to get done in a day or two. Does anyone know if the Lowes installers install the cabinets at Lowe's showroom? If so, I would not be happy with the work....See Morequestion about cabinet installation
Comments (1)I think it depends on the cabinetry and the experience of the GC. If the GC knows the brand or the work of the custom cabinetmaker, then it might not be a big deal. If not, however, there could be problems. The GC on my job, who is also a master carpenter, had never worked with Plain and Fancy before. Although the installation went ok, it could have gone faster had this not been his first time dealing with P&F. Honestly, I can't imagine anyone being better qualified to install your cabinetry than the cabinet maker's own team. At the same time, I can also understand if your GC is not happy with that arrangement because it will cut him/her out of some nice fees. :-)...See MoreCabinet Installation Question - can anyone help quick?
Comments (12)Holly - your response makes sense and is basically what we have here (although it is not FLUSH with the back - the back panel hangs over, which you can barely see in the picture above. But if this is true and how these are supposed to be, then why do the installation instructions say to drill pilot holes 1" from the side panels on each side. That wouldn't make it into the base at all. My husband installed it, the way gaucho advised above. It seems fine, although there is no oven in it yet. During install, we found cracks on both sides of the front (that go through from inside to outside) panels. (Attached a picture of the worst one.) I've sent pictures to the cabinet company we bought it from to see what is next. I think it should be replaced. Which mean DH has to take this one out and install again. Or they'll do nothing and we'll have cracked cabinet fronts to live with. Very annoying....See Morebeachem
