Anyone have a Thermador integrated refrigerator next to a wall?

My current kitchen design has a 36" single door Thermador fridge with a wall to its right and a 24" pantry to its left, then the counter to the left of that. There is an island across from this. I could actually switch the placement of the fridge and pantry if I wanted to but I put the fridge next to the wall because I was worried that if it's closer to the island it would make getting around the person at the open fridge a little more difficult, perhaps necessitating going all the way around the island to get into the main part of the kitchen, between the island and run of cabinets.

I am well aware that I'll be in the fridge more often than the pantry and it makes more sense to have a counter landing by the fridge. I'm also now aware that the fridge being by a wall has the potential to be a nightmare.

The reason I'm asking Thermador owner opinions is due to that articulating hinge they've got. Will that prevent issues next to the wall? Or may I still have a problem piling out bins to clean if I can only open the single door 90 degrees? I really don't like the look of French doors and having to open two doors but it may fix all my problems to switch to that and put the fridge by the counter. Opinions??

Mine is right next to a wall. The beauty of these appliances is that you only need to open the door 90° to be able to pull out the interior drawers. Just make sure in your setup you have landing space for groceries and getting food out.

I think you should post your floor plan for us to see. I wouldn't want my fridge banging against the wall. Also, if you do it your way, how will you put away groceries? Seems like more work than having the cabinet at the end of the run.

I dont know if this is the same scenario, but I have a thermadoor built in next to a partial wall. I have not had any problems removing drawers or shelves for cleaning that I can think of. The door seems to open pretty wide. I'll double check later and post back.

Hi, I can appreciate your refrigerator "dilema" - it is one I share - with the added concern of needing to be solar power compatable! I'm a kitchen designer so I have a bit of awareness on a couple of your questions. The Bosch and Thermador units are manufactured under the same roof so the Freedom unit provides a reasonable footprint. Take a look at the Viking designer series french door unit. (made by Kitchenaide) Consider the Kitchenaide 36" single door unit and Sub Zero 650. Our current thinking is a Bosch 30" all fridge column with a Summit 2 drawer under counter freezer unit. Appears to be the most energy efficient of anything except a Sunfrost and has an estimated combined capacity of 21 c. ft. Cabinet details will make a huge difference with the success of a built-in 'look'. The high end appliance manufacturers do a good job with integrating their systems. Note the hinges and door swing requirements.

Not sure this helps but I have the 36" FD one. Its like the thermador model but with plastic interior. And it doesn't have the elevating shelf. OTherwise the same EXCEPT you cannot buy a model for putting panels on. If you want that then you need the thermador (or meile i suppose which is even higher priced). I just noticed the new 30" one. The 36" FD model has been around at least a year or more. My fridge works great. Food is well preserved. Shelving and drawers are solid. Lighting is very nice. Ice maker works well. Plenty of ice. Its beautiful as fridges go. Complaints or comments: you do need a professional to install it. its tricky. my freezer drawer has more sway in it than i like. there are plastic pieces (stupid vent covers) that came off and never stay on so i gave up on those.

Liebherr Integrated 24in Fridge/Freezer - Anyone Have One Or Two?

We have one of the 24" fully integrated Liebherrs adjacent to a 30" Thermador Freedom refrigerator. The Liebherr was installed in September '09. Yes, we love it, although the best thing about this refrigerator is that I don't even notice it's there most of the time: it's dead quiet. Since we have a full freezer in our lower level, we didn't feel the need to have much freezer space in the kitchen, although I am surprised just how much we can stuff into those three freezer drawers. Sometimes I cram in so much that it's a bit difficult to open and close the freezer drawers, but that's entirely on me. The Liebherr has become what we call our "condiment refrigerator." It holds MANY bottles plus extra milk, eggs, seltzer, and the like. I will say that right after it was installed, I was a bit disconcerted by the condensation running down the back wall even though I knew it was part of the refrigerator's normal operation. I have not noticed much, if any, moisture on that wall for quite some time which may be because most of what we store in the Liebherr is sealed. All in all, I am very happy with it, especially since it was a floor model that we purchased at a deep discount.

I have had a 30" Freedom refrigerator and 24" Freedom freezer for a year. I haven't had any trouble with them, and I would buy them again in a second. I love to be able to really see everything in there. I am 5' 7", but I would agree anyone under 5'2" or so might have trouble with that top shelf. Mine are panelled and I love the way they disappear into the cabinets. However, getting the panels put on was difficult and took awhile. This will add to your cost, and you might need to take that into account with your budget. Also, the cabinet makers (a local custom shop) didn't make them correctly the first time, and they needed to be redone (at their expense, fortunately.

I have a Miele integrated fridge which I believe is the same as the Thermador. I can access everything when the fridge door is only open 90 degrees, but if the fridge is next to the wall you may not be able to open the door that wide.... you have to take into account how far your appliance handle sticks out.

I just opened my thermadore door and it will open past 90 degrees...maybe 110? But it does not open 180 degrees.

yes, johnsoro25, my situation is like that, right next a little half wall but on the opposite side of the kitchen (little wall on right not left). As long as the articulating hinge allows the 90 degree opening to get everything out I don't have an issue. Though, I am a bit weary about not having the landing space exactly next to the fridge. My current design has a 24" pantry between the fridge and counter. But moving that fridge next to the counter means a really tight space in the aisle.

Hope there is a minimal filler and panel thickness included in that design or it will not work. Walls are never straight and plumb.

@johnsoro25 Could you share a full picture of your kitchen? I think it is a similiar layout to our new build. How much space is between your fridge and range? Where did you place the other column? Thanks so much!
