Comments (57)Ohhhhh Shady, I'm definitely coming to eat at your house...grilled Tuna....fish...surimi and sushimi....yum. Mayo I think is just shortened for Mayonaise....you know, Arthur, the American tendency to shorten everything...including our present King. The only thing which worries me about making my own mayonaise is the raw egg thing again....but hey, I like Miracle Whip on pumpernickle. And yes, I like fried spam, but could never stomach fried bologna. I'm also an iconoclast because I saw these new "stemless" wine glasses and thought it was a sacrilege...the point to the stems on a wine glass is so you don't warm the wine with your fingers whilst holding the glass. I too like thin wine glasses, tea cups and coffee cups...but I have a strange problem...I get the urge to bite them. Comments (23)I use 12 level tbsps of coffee plus about 1 1/2 more for our ten-cup Braun. I always offer guests added hot water if it's too strong, but no one has ever complained. We buy Don Francisco online or from the catalog; it's DH's favorite. Don't care for Starbucks; it tastes very harsh to me. We have a variety of D.F. flavors that we like. When they have a sale we occasionally spring for Kona. There is now a discussion about coffee brewed in French press coffee makers being bad for one's cholesterol. A Dutch study comparing filtered to unfiltered coffee indicated that this was the case. There's a fair amount online about this question. I just googled 'french press coffee cholesterol'. Comments (28)Two of my grandparents were from Ireland and the other 2 from Scotland and Wales and all 4 made tea the same way - very much as jmc described. The only difference was my Irish grandparents wouldn't purchase British tea and relied on relatives to send them Barry's or Bewley's. Now of course those brands are readily available. I usually drink Irish Breakfast Tea which is fairly strong since it's a blend of several black teas and heavily Assam. But I've never learned to appreciate Earl Grey, there's something about the oil of bergamot that I can't abide - even the aroma bothers me. My DD on the other hand now drinks Stash's double bergamot. DD's significant other moved here from London and he prefers P.G. Tips and of course his digestives. When we were in Dublin we often had tea at Bewley's on Grafton. How delightful to sit by the window in the late afternoon and watch the world pass by. For some reason I've segregated my coffee and tea - one cup of coffee in the morning before I begin my day but I seem to reserve my tea for late afternoon or evening when I'm relaxing. Comments (66)Michael, I go there too, when I must, but most of my mornings start with a pot of freshly ground Paramount brand Kona in my french press, followed by a pot of the same stuff at work in a drip coffee maker because that's what I have available. I drink one half packet of artificial sweetener in my coffee, although I will plead guilty to an occasional cup of caramel mocha. I don't really consider that coffee, LOL, it's more of a hot milkshake. The coffee doesn't make a huge difference with all that milk and sugar and chocolate, so I can drink the McDonald's stuff and it's fine. There have been exactly two cups of coffee I've had in my life that I could drink black. One was the special stuff that Renee sent me while she still owned Big Valley Coffee, I don't even remember the name but she told me that it was expensive enough that she only got it on Christmas and Father's Day because no one would spend the money any other time of year. The other was a coffee called Terrazu from Costa Rica, it actually tasted vaguely like chocolate, but not sweet. Everything else gets that half package of artificial sweetener.....
