cabinets deeper on one side than the other? will this look weird?
Comments (13)I think it can look very nice. I don't think the asymmetry will be an issue - the island already adds asymmetry since you have an island overhang on one side. I don't have a U kitchen (more of a wide galley kitchen) but we have 31" recess on one side and 24" on the other. We have a peninsula on one one side, so it's not that comparable -- but we don't notice the difference at all. Here's a picture (from Houzz) of a frame built around a full-depth refrigerator. [Traditional Kitchen[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/traditional-kitchen-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_709~s_2107) by San Jose Design-Build Firms May Construction, Inc. A couple suggestions: 1) It helps to be a bit more specific on dimensions. The picture above is like our kitchen in that the countertop depth matches the depth of the side panel. With the overhang, your lower cabinets will probably go out 1.5" less than that countertop depth. The point being -- base the dimensions on the countertop depth in this case, not on the cabinets. 2) I have a Samsung and they require 2" clearance behind the refrigerator for proper ventilation. There are a lot of reports of their refrigerators not cooling correctly when you use less clearance. Other vendors have a smaller requirement but you have to go off the vendor recommendation and not an industry standard. The 2" clearance requirement was the reason I went down to the Samsung RF263BEAESR/AA, which is slightly smaller depth. Comments (49)To post pictures: 1. Open an account on a free picture hosting site such as Photobucket, Webshots, Flickr, etc. 2. Make your album "public" so others can see your pictures .....In Photobucket: Click on "Account Options" (top right corner) ..........Next, click "Edit Album Settings" ..........Then, where it says "My album is", be sure it says "Public" (if not, change it to "Public") 3. Using camera software that came with your camera or other software like Microsoft Picture Manager, resize the picture so it's less than 600 pixels in both directions. It's best to resize based on a percentage (like 20%) so the picture dimensions remain consistent (not stretched out vertically or horizontally!) 4. Upload the picture to your account (see #1) 5. If you use Photobucket, when you see your picture on the site, copy the link from the box labeled "HTML Code" (I don't know where the link is in Webshots, Flicker, etc.--I use Photobucket) .....[BTW...You can also resize your pic on the Photobucket site] 6. Simply paste the link from the "HTML Code" in your message...you're done! When you preview your message you will see the picture. Is this understandable??? Comments (23)I have Elfa in mine and they make thick plastic sheets that fit in the shelves and make it an even surface. I saw a picture -- probably on Pinterest -- of laminate floor tiles placed on wire shelves. Small, easy to clean, cheap; seems like a winner to me. I'm betting they're going to put in 18" deep (or deeper) shelving - much too deep for a pantry (12" is ideal). I know this is standard advice, but I'm fine with 18". I have a number of LARGE Lazy Susans that allow me to access things at the back. Since I bake wedding cakes, I have cake pans as large as 16" wide, which I store on the upper shelves. In my new house, I plan to have BOTH 12" and 18" shelves in my pantry. I plan to have some Elfa pull-out drawers on the lower portion, and they're something like 22 or 23" deep....See MoreIs there a down side to installing pantry rollouts onto shelves?
Comments (3)Frameless cabinets. @MizLizzie I've never seen them as adjustable. I'll have to look into that. Does your pantry have individual roll out trays or is it a tall pullout?...See MoreAnnKH
