100 trees is a good starting point, but I have not seen any discussion about rootstocks, cultural practice or the budget designed to hit your goals.. Each of these points merit careful consideration. The current "state of the art" in apple production seems to be some form of tall spindle with trees 3 or 4 feet apart in rows 12 or 13 feet apart. With a tree density of over 800 trees per acre, plan on spending around $15K per acre for this type of orchard not including the fence! Trees cost around $10 each and you have place the order at least one year or perhaps two years ahead to get what you want. Some nursery will custom bud any variety you choose it they do not have it in their catalog. The most useful information I have seen is in YouTube or other video from Umass or Cornell. Also, T Robinson (Cornell) has produced a lot of research explaining and advocating tall spindle systems. Last year I saw a new 100 acre planting of dwarf trees in Virginia which must have cost over a million dollars It was a very impressive site. The smart money in the orchard business from all over the country seems to be on board with tall spindle system Don't forget the berries and brambles. They fit perfect with your plan and cost a lot less to get started than tree fruit

I like foggyi's suggestions about stations at a community center or maybe a church since you aren't serving alcohol.Have 3 different cakes one at each station.One an anniversary cake, one 40 years on the job and a 60th birthday cake for your bride(loved that you still call her that after 20 years) Have the catering staff stand at each station serving your guests and replenishing the food. Have a videographer there to make a video of the night and a photographer taking picks at another station...kinda like prom pictures. Have a DJ there playing you and your bride's type of music. Let the DJ take requests and dance with your bride. Have the photographer take pics of the both of you cutting your anniversary cake, a pic of you cutting your work cake and then your bride cutting her birthday cake..Have 3 different flavored cakes like a white cake with butter cream icing, a german chocolate cake for your job, and maybe a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting for your wife's birthday cake. Request on the invitations that it is fancy party attire...or whatever you want.. But I still think foggi's idea of the stations is the best idea... .

These are only suggestions to begin. Once I got into the kitchen and actually working in it I probably reorganized the drawers etc 2 or 3 times. Pull-out trash: That goes where ever you are doing your prep work. If that is on the island that is where it goes. If it is on the counter between the sink and the range then I would put it to the left of the sink. It looks like you have a prep sink in the island so if that is where you are going to prep that is where the trash goes. What about putting it by the prep sink put opening up towards the clean-up sink and then it can do double duty. This is something you will have to imagine yourself actually doing and so perhaps mock-up the island in different configurations and see which makes the most sense. In the drawer stack to the right of the DW - maybe put your dish towels/clothes, napkins etc there. Across from the DW- perhaps put your everyday cutlery there. If you wanted dishes drawers they could also be put there. maybe a 3 stack and then you just empty the DW straight across. OR they could go in the upper cabinet to the left of the sink. Pots/pans - should go next to the stove. I have a 3 stack next to the stove for these things. The top drawer is my cooking utensils, next drawer is pots and pans, and the bottom drawer is my frying pans. I have another 3 stack on the other side and the top drawer is my eating cutlery (my kitchen is of a different design) and you could put your spices there, but the next drawer down is my "white" casserole dishes W/lids and the bottom drawer is my small appliances. (grinder, hand-mixer, small electric mixer, emulsion, etc) My cookie sheets, wire racks and other pyrex casserole dishes are above the fridge. Do you have a place for trays, etc yet? Those 2 cabinets to the left of the range - DEFINITELY change those to drawers. Anyway - maybe this will get you started and others will chime in with ideas. But, as mentioned, you will unpack and then reorganize. The only rule I got was from my DH and he requested that I stop moving the breakfast cereals when I reorganized.

Congratulations on your first grandchild! It sounds like you have some great ideas already from everyone on here. If I may add one thought regarding changing tables...we had one (b/c it was given to us). We rarely used it, even with our first baby. There's something more challenging about changing a baby when you are attempting to do so from the side. Our changing table had shelves. Our little boy loved to take everything off of the shelves every chance he got, as soon as he could sit up, so after the first few times of refolding clothing and putting diapers back on the shelves, we stopped using it for storage. Then he thought it would be a fun thing to try to climb up, as soon as he could pull himself to a stand. It may just depend upon the child, but that experience was enough to get rid of the changing table by the time our second child arrived. :) My parents had a convertable crib for our kids at their home. The type that turns into a toddler bed, and then can be a headboard for a regular bed as they get older. This can be quite a money saver for down the road. Just be careful with any crib you may purchase right now, as many have been recalled...so beware if you are buying one from CL, etc...just check to be sure it's not on the recall list (which seems to be growing by the month).
