4th of July rose year 2-thanks
Comments (8)All, Thank you for the kind words and encouragement. I will post progress pictures as they grow. hoovb, I did build the arbor from cedar lumber. I got the idea from a picture in an old Smith and Hawken catalog. A fun challenge, especially on a slope....See More4th of July in zone 5? Any experiences?
Comments (12)I have tried Fourth of July twice now and it hasn't overwintered. I'll try it at least one more time, but I would only expect it to be a shrub size and not really climb. If it won't climb for Summers in zone 6, it is unlikely to climb for me here. Too bad, as I like stripes. Hurdy Gurdy has the same habit with not climbing/surviving in the same color scheme. I haven't yet found a red/white striped climber that does well for me, though Rock 'n' Roll and Stars and Stripes forever are both quite tall bushes (5-6' at least). Purple Splash however does seem to survive for me as a climber, and Flamenco Dancer has survived on a second try and climbs a bit. Cynthia...See MoreWhat's blooming in July on the 4th floor
Comments (13)Now that's an idea Carol!! I'm probably already known as the crazy plant lady:) It's a good thing I have to leave a path open or I'd have every inch covered. Neighbors come up on the Fourth to watch fireworks (hence the flag) and I need to leave room. Most of the plants are from starts I learned how to do either from here or Youtube. An annual does not have to be annual. I put one "Mother" plant in the garage (in between my car and the wall) for the winter and go on from there. Easy peasy. Glad you like them cyndita. They are pretty healthy, probably because they are four floors up and not so many crawly type bugs. Ooooh, I remember the slugs when I had a yard. Yuk! This is much tidier:) Kristine, that's interesting you lived here and had a balcony garden. I give starts to the neighbors when they move in to get them interested in gardening. It's a waste of space not to have some plants if you have a balcony or deck. I agree about giving the flowers more attention when you see them up close all the time. Thanks for the kind comments....See Morehappy 4th of july!
Comments (8)Happy 4th of July!! We normally don't do much but we have Azalea's brothers coming over so we decided to make it really fun for them. I bought a spinning teeter toter, we filled up the pool ( between kiddie and adult size ) got bubbles and even a handful of fireworks. And of course hot dogs and ice cream. Even though no fireworks display I want the kids to still have special memories of the 4th of July. Thank you to every person who has been a part of our freedom. Have a bessed day...See MoreJanaina (Zone 6B - Maryland)
