Painting Steel File Cabinet -Bad Idea?
Comments (12)Emily - Wash them, dry them carefully, scuff up the surface by rubbing all over it with 000-steel wool ... then paint with any paint intended for metal. Cover the handles, locks and such with tape. It's easiest to do if you take the drawers out. And you can have different colored drawers, too. We painted a long wall of mis-matched 3 to 5-drawer filing cabinets to look like a city street with buildings. They were in working condition, but ugly, and the only place we had to put them was a prominent place. So we painted them to look like store fronts and apartments and office buildings. Each drawer was one floor in our scheme. The wall behind them was painted with sky and clouds. It wasn't realistic - more kid's picture book - but the customers liked it. We even had a "penthouse" where a 5-drawer cabinet's top floor had a terrace painted on the top of the adjoining 4-drawer cabinet. Furniture, trees, everything. (OK, it was a grown-up dollhouse!)...See Morebm azores is amazing!!!!
Comments (30)Red, Thanks for the comments. My favorite color is definitely green. I love jades, pale greens, emerald, beetle green (that metallic green shot with gold). I also love firey oranges. I love a tropical chic kind of decor. Love the British colonial thing mixed with some Asian flair, love rich woods, sheen-y fabrics. For some reason, I've been on an aqua kick lately. It all started when I decided to paint the bathroom cocoa (and I'm still not sure if I like the color in the bathroom. It just doesn't "feel" right). That's where I got the idea to pair aqua as an accent to the brown, and it's been like a fever ever since. The fact that aqua seems to be everywhere in home decor these days isn't helping to quell my obsession. I thought, aqua's in, I love green anyway, and it will go with my love of tropical decor. Where the Azores color doesn't touch the cabs or countertops, I love it. It just is so weird with those elements. You're right, it almost has a mid-century modern feel to it. I hope people are right in telling me painting the cabs white will cure a lot of ills. I really like how the paint looks against white trim. Another weird thing about this color is that different greens play funny games with it. The dark green in the two orchid ceramic art pieces above my stove look funny against this aqua color. OK, so if I'm going with white or off white cabs, please give me some ideas. And reassure me that with all white appliances there won't be a white overload! Believe or not, I've been toying with the idea of painting the cabs glossy black for a while. Love glossy black furniture!...See MoreYay or Nay? 1 master bath and 2 guest. Countertop, tile and grout.
Comments (9)1st picture I would keep as is. It looks like a faux wood tile. I think the idea behind those is to minimize the grout so it looks more realistic. You also want very minimal grout between tiles. My parents have a wood look tile in their second home. One barely notices the grout lines. Second picture--I would select something a shade or two lighter. Personally I don't like when grout is darker than the tile. It reminds me of a gas station restroom and looks dirty to me. On my screen it looks like you matched the darker shade in the tile. I'd try to match the lighter shade....See MoreWood replacement windows?
Comments (38)@toddinmn I just deleted my last comment because it was snotty. Sorry. The average price is average. Most windows do not need $423 worth or work, some need more and a few need much more. That's why its called an average. We usually do not paint because most exterior trim is already painted, and painting trim is not part of window repair. We don't usually add storm windows because well over 96% of the houses already have working storms. All of this, however, is already figured in to the average. You can keep identifying little peripheral task sometimes but rarely needed in a window restore and I will tell you the same thing. If it needs doing we will do it and charge for it. But, it's already figured into the average....See Morealcapulco
