Will Burpee Perennials Bloom this Summer?
Comments (3)I'm growing E. Pow Wow Wild Berry from seed via the winter sowing method and have read conflicting information as to whether or not they will bloom first year grown from seed. I expect they'll produce a bloom or two this year but as with most perennials from seed, won't really put on a show until next year after getting established in the garden bed....See MorePerennial flower that bloom all summer
Comments (15)It depends on your zone. In my experience, in Zone 8, Salvia Gregii, many different Lantanas, Zexmenia, Purple Coneflower, Bulbine and Indigo Spires Salvia have been blooming since April and will not stop until November when we have our first freeze. Many plants like Yarrow and Coreopsis are about done here as the heat sets in (95 degrees already). You need a variety of plants including perennials as well as some annuals if you want constant bloom....See MoreNeed Long-blooming Summer Perennials
Comments (4)Athens Rose Lantana, Indigo Spires Salvia, any knockout rose, Walker's Low catmint (you'll need to prune it after it finishes blooming for it to bloom again), Ginger Lily (which smells wonderful, but needs lots of water), Salvia Guarantica (you'll need to prune it after it finishes blooming for it to bloom again, also this is a plant much beloved by hummingbirds), Nicky Phlox is a repeat bloomer, Four O'Clocks (you'll need to prune it after it finishes blooming for it to bloom again), and Phyllis Fancy salvia which blooms late summer through frost (it's a huge plant). Coneflowers are an excellent choice. Some periennials I love for thier foilage color are Purple Emperor Sedum, Purple Setcreasea pallida (Purple Heart Wandering Jew), Powis Castle Artemisa, Heuchera (Coral Bell) & Lambs Ear. Some annuals that I've had that have consistently reseeded or come back the following year (barring a very cold winter): begonias, zinnias & cleome. Have fun!...See MoreGreat Late Summer Blooming Perennials
Comments (5)The Rozanne = 'Gerwat' geranium has been a hit with many and is at outlets now. Otherwise Frikart asters are a classic, although I have sometimes had these not come back in spring - making sure drainage is good throughout the year may be the key. We had the 'Goldsturm' coneflower here for many years but then something started to chew away sections of the rays ("petals") and I got tired of their cheesy yellow coloring. But quite a smart-looking plant otherwise, and it has leaves present during winter....See Morel_d_g
