Can you do this with luxury vinyl flooring?
Comments (6)Sure you can. Just be prepared for a large labor bill. No matter what the material, that's a lot of custom cutting. A design like that has be carefully laid out because imperfections or imbalances will jump out to the eye. As for authenticity, there's a whole lot of LVT being laid in commercial applications I've seen that the average person honestly CAN'T tell from stone and wood. We were in a big retail store and my spouse commented how stunning the dark green marble floors were. I looked down and said, "This is beautiful, but it's vinyl, not marble." On the Kitchen forum there are many, many discussion threads about marble and marble substitute countertops. Every year companies are getting closer and closer to making a counter that is a true marble look-alike. Page down in this latest discussion thread on Neolith, for a photo of it: http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/2704849/all-i-can-say-about-neolith-is-wow?n=115. In 2003 we looked at stone-look flooring for our kitchen. The sheet vinyl was fake looking, but the solid vinyl tiles - Amtico and Metroflor - were quite nice. We picked Metroflor and have been extremely happy with it. Quiet, comfortable underfoot, never cold, and ridiculously easy to care for. Fast-forward to 2014. We needed to redo a small bathroom tile floor. I was shocked at how realistic the sheet vinyl stone-looks had become. It was a HUGE improvement in coloration. We put in an Armstrong sheet vinyl slate-look; looks great running up against our 1940's wide-plank oak flooring....See MoreArea rug on luxury vinyl plank
Comments (9)YES. One big FYI. The middle of the planks is a form of stone or cement. We do have some unevenness in our floor (two different pours in the family room created a 1/2 inch drop. One of the planks started to come up. The store sent down a highly experienced person to repair it. He used a circular power saw to cut in the middle of the plank, the entire length of the plank. Then a second cut about an inch wide to allow space to remove the plank without damaging the locking ends of the adjoining planks. He then removed the plank, and using a special tool, inserted it without any damage. He put a length of rug padding, under the plank, to prevent another bend. He could have used floor level material, but it would have very inconvenient for us, given drying time and the location. The process took 4 hours for one plank. No charge as the store offers a lifetime satisfaction warranty and they live up to that. We are glad we got it. Make absolutely certain that if you have any uneven areas, including loose gravel near the patio door, that the floor liquid leveling be perfect. The less expensive planks are more flexible, and tolerate floor discrepancies better....See Morerug pad for luxury vinyl plank?
Comments (9)Thank you Anne I appreciate the info. A rug in our dining room is necessary because we have window cornices that my dad made me so I chose not to have curtains because I have dogs and in our last house- the curtains got destroyed. So we really don’t have a way to “dress up” the dining room other than some wall decor and a nice rug to help fill the room if that makes sense. Also- our LVP scratches so easy it’s awful! Even with felt pads under our dining room chairs when I pull the chairs in and out our floor would scratch horribly! Especially if you’re sitting on them and slide out like most people do... I wasn’t looking for a rug too expensive and I also was having a super hard time finding a rug that was the colors/style I was looking for (black and tan) and I happened to find the PERFECT one which is cheap polypropylene (unfortunately) I’m hoping it lasts a bit longer than 2-3 years because our dining room never really even gets used to be honest. It’s just there for show at this point. LOL!...See MoreIndoor doormat safe for Luxury Vinyl Plank floor (no rubber/latex)
Comments (3)Where are you looking? Ikea has dozens. Walmart will NOT. Target will NOT. You do NOT want 'water proof'. You just want a heavy area rug that is in a small size...kinda like what you would stand on in front of the sink in the kitchen.
