Is ipe really any less maintenance than other woods?

We're doing a
large front porch on a new build and I thought I had settled on doing ipe deck
as it's always billed as the low maintenance decking option; however, after
reading many threads, it sounds like if we want to keep the original wood tone (not a fan of the silver fade), we’ll need
to clean and seal it every year or even more frequently due to the density of
the wood (doesn't hold stain well)…..in which case, how is ipe any less maintenance than PT-pine or cedar
(I actually love the look of the paler woods)? I realize that if we want to just let it go silver, ipe would be great, but if we want to retain a natural wood tone, are there any woods that require less maintenance/frequency of staining
(this will be on a covered porch in a high desert region, though we get a
decent amount of snow in the winter)? Our current home has a Trex deck that has
held up quite well, but I just don’t like the look of any composites I’ve seen,
and it doesn’t feel anything like real wood under my feet! This
will be our “forever” home, so we’re willing to pay more upfront in order to
save time in annual maintenance/treatments over the life of it.
