Why is my Limber Pine turning yellow?
Comments (13)Hi again - Thanks for your replies. Here's another picture. Hopefully this one will be a little better for you, Ken. Just let me know if you would like more pics. I took several shots of it. I live in Joplin, MO (the place the EF5 tornado hit a couple years ago, though it missed us by 3/4 mile). The tree was grown in Oregon and I bought it from the Home Depot here (the one that was on the national news and destroyed by the tornado - not that anyone member that or that it even matters as far as this tree is concerned). Anyway, the tree is in very rocky and well-drained soil. I hate to admit it, but I don't know what type of oil I have here (that's because I'm just a beginner and didn't even have any interest in trees or doing yard work of any sort until this summer and I haven't had a chance to get to that yet). We have a lot of native oak trees around if that tells anyone anything. Anyway, my Limber Pine seems to be getting worse by the day. I had given it a good soaking since I hadn't watered it in a week or two, and then we happened to get a lot of rain over several days, so maybe it just got too much water(?). As far as transplant shock, it had looked beautiful and very happy for about 3 months, then all of a sudden it's turning yellow. This seemed to begin after I'd watered it, however it's possible it could have started before that and I just didn't notice it, being that it began on the west side of the tree and I don't often look at it from that side....See MoreWhy is my Snow Mountain Hydrangea Tree leaves turning yellow?
Comments (17)cjsm, thank you so much for the follow-up. I am hearing rather conflicting messages from different people though - my local nursery people told me to keep on watering, since this is a new tree and the root system is not well-developed yet. On the other hand, I hear what you are saying and the overwatering theory in clay soil (which I also have) definitely makes sense! I think I am going to stop watering it for a few days and see what happens. You know, it's hard when you see the leaves drooping in the strong afternoon sun and still not water it! At least it is getting cooler around here these days... BTW, cjsm, my tree was planted in a big planting hole on a slope, and I had plenty of cow manure and things amending the local clay soil, so I think I don't need to take it out to raise it more. I hope this does the trick! Thank you again for your info....See MoreWhy are my bamboo and tropical plant turning yellow?
Comments (6)Tiffany is correct--the lucky bamboo especially is sensitive to tap water chemicals. What do the roots look like on the bamboo? Do they smell? I had a stalk go yellow very quickly and it was the result of root rot. I ordered a bad one from ebay where the roots were already starting to rot. It happens sometimes. Check the other stalk roots for any sign of mushiness. Though this doesn't guarantee your bamboo will live forever, I try to change out the water pretty often (once a week or more)--it also allows me to inspect the plant and to rinse off any debri or goo (algae) that can build up in the clumped roots. A lot of internet guides will advise every two weeks, but I feel as though the water is pretty gross long before that....See MorePlease help me identify why my citrus leaves are yellowing
Comments (9)I took the leap of faith today and pulled it out of the container. It looks like it was very root bound and therefore nutrient uptake was limited. I had no choice but to gently loosen up the roots and re-pot in a 2 gallon. I am in Canada in the middle of winter but I think my plant thinks it is spring based on the artificial light and flowering. Hopefully it doesn't stress it out and cause flower/leaf drop. I trimmed off maybe 10 leaves off. Do you guys think its a good idea to take more off? I will just water with the water + vinegar for the next month or so. Then I will switch to Miracle-Gro All Purpose 24-8-16 + vinegar which is closer to what you guys recommend. Thanks all!...See Morejennifer_champagne80
