please help with my two tiny depressing bathrooms
Comments (58)I have a small house. Small baths. You don't like housecleaning nor wiping down after kids. One thing I did was I got rid of the ceramic tile tub surround and had white swanstone panels installed. I never want to clean mildewed grout again. I love tile and put it above the panels. Yes, I prefer, way prefer the look of tile but not at the cost of cleaning it. The swanstone looks pretty good. Sorry no pics. I have two Americast tubs and I think they are acrylic..I love them. Had cast iron before. They are shiny, sparkly, fresh and white. I think my cleaners use a spray to clean them. I am glad you are thinking this thru before you do extreme drastic measures. 1000s f is not going to be better with the addition of windows. Editing, building up, and up going storage will help, not windows. Natural light is overrated. Look at small space solutions and not at glam or cliched luxury sites. We built closets onto our bedroom walls instead of new dressers. Up to the ceiling. Think California closets. With drawers and cabinets. Not pretty but functional. We have ikea Brimnes headboards with under bed storage drawers in our new house. I am an ikea slave. Your family is always going to take a lot of time and energy and that's just the way it is. A 1000sf house will not be easy but it's home. And I love love your kitchen. Think about the life you live for now. Think first before acting....See MoreAnyone have a TINY (like 3'x6') powder room??
Comments (16)Such a timely post. My powder room is 3 by 7. The door is in the middle , to the right is the pedestal sink (18 inches deep by 22 inches wide) and across from it is the toilet. I am thinking about updating it (it's 20 plus years old, and a pinkish beige). I have toyed with getting a small vanity because truthfully while I like the look and space of th epedestal sink, it would be nice to have a wee bit of storage. I went to Lowe's yesterday and they had some very very nice small vanities (31 inches wide and under-). I am trying to decide if they could work in my space or if I just need to stick with a pedestal sink.In any case, it is a small room but it's not too small:)...See MoreNeed thoughts on potential remodel idea
Comments (7)TOTALLY agree with Lascatx, you really are a saint, Beverly!!! This weekend I will put pen to paper and get everything mapped out, down to the inch. Liking the idea of a pocket door! I'm sooooo thrilled I am one step closer to having a powder room and *gasp* a walk-in pantry! I never would have thought I would be able to have them! The 32" door would be positively luxurious! In this little house, all of our bedroom doors are, I believe, 30" and our main bathroom door is only 28, lol. So, I wouldn't mind going a little bit smaller to save an inch or two for the sake of keeping with the rest of the house, but we will see! Loving the idea of a pocket door, too! Btw, Ogoopogo, BEAUTIFUL powder room! I didn't even notice the doggie toys until you said something! The good news about all this is I have time to figure furniture out -- whether we combine all functions into the back or commandeer the front as useful space. None of those changes are necessarily permanent (save for the eventual lighting) but I can play musical rooms to my hearts content once the kitchen/pantry/pr is done. Next step for me is putting together a layout of said kit-pan-der room (giggle), but I'll do that on the kitchen forum -- if y'all are curious to see how it evolves, please feel free to stop on by!!!! And again, apologies for the REALLLLLY long initial post! I hope I didn't give anybody a headache =(...See MoreThe Tale of the Teeny-Tiny Powder Room - 4/23 Wallpaper is up
Comments (87)@Allison0704 @amykath Thank you. It really isnt too hard. I have hung wallpaper before, for my mother when I was probably 15. She handed me the rolls, and a tub of wallpaper paste and said do this. It really isn't complicated, it's fiddly. The wallpaper I used was very easy to work with. They print the specific # of rolls you want, and they have varying lengths you can order depending on ceiling height. Pattern-wise the top of every roll is the same. This makes it very easy to pattern match. Cutting around outlets and obstacles, like thermostat, is a little hard. Working in a small space is challenging. The first thing they tell you on the Spoonflower website, is 'recruit a friend.' Well there is no way two people were fitting in my powder room. Fortunately I also watched a video on YouTube and she started with, "I am going to do this by myself, it's perfectly OK to do this with 1 person." She actually also addressed my biggest concern was how to handle the fact that my house is crooked, it's over 100 years and there is not a true, plumb, wall anywhere. She stressed not to line up to the ceiling, but to drop a plumbline and line up your first strip to that. That definitely helped me. I also, deliberately picked a pattern that had swoops and curves to hide my home's quirks....See MoreJade BR
