Some goodies from the past few days..
It's been in the mid-90s the last few days, after weeks of below 60°. Quite a shock for us, but a good shock for the roses too... and the chickies! The new babes aren't handling the heat very well. Poor things. The roses are adapting fairly quickly tho. Another week and they'll all be adjusted to it. Not to worry...

This is a DRACUNCUS VULGARUS or VOODOO LILY. It's an interesting, weird thing that has the most horrible odor! My husband asked WTH smelled so bad out front, then he remembered... "oh it's that weird plant you have out there that attracts flies!" I thought I had dug it out a couple of yrs ago... but apparently it left some babies...

Comments (11)Nancy and Rita - I love gigantic blooms as long as they have sturdy scapes, and the seedling in the first two photos has thick, strong scapes. The Watchyl Lady Butterfly seedling has medium sized scapes, but they have held in strong winds. The Awesome Applique x Blazing Saddles that everyone has liked in previous posts has a 7-8 inch bloom, but the scapes bend in storms. That may be what rules it out as an introduction. Comments (14)Juliet, How far away from the bloom edge of Truly Angelic did you hold your camera? I have a macro setting on mine, but I'm not supposed to get closer than 8 1/2" from the subject. Then I have to be so careful of camera shake! Your Picture Pretty just blew me away! Then when I recovered, I added it to my wish list. It grew contentedly and productively for many many years until a daylily friend of mine saw it and had to have it. I gifted it to her as it was time to move on to other yellows......Shores of Time got to bloom last year before going down for the count over last winter.
