I don't have a sink like yours, BUT, I would consult the sink manufacturer's use and care instructions before using any type of abrasive or aggressive method of cleaning. You don't won't to risk irreversible damage/discoloration and you don't want to void the warranty!!

There is Dawn, Goo Gone, and Cascade gel under the sink. I can't imagine Dawn or Cascade being the culprit; thoughts on Goo Gone?

I keep staring at it and seeing a "pattern" of water, almost as if the sink comes with some sort of coating and wherever the water has blasted (concentrated) and then splattered (splotchy) around the sink, that coating has been compromised. Like there's something harsh in the water. I've never lived in this area/state, and this was a newly constructed home, so I have no idea what I'm looking at for water here. Although I can tell you that one thing I've seen since moving here is a lot of pink stuff wherever there's water - e.g., pink rim forms quickly in my dog's water bowl, in the toilet, on a sink sprayer nozzle that sits with a few drips in it, etc. My husband researched the pink and everything he reads points to mold in the air, but we spoke with a neighbor last night and they said that while they knew what we were talking about, a) they believe it's not air mold but 'pink algae' instead, and b) they develop it in their water areas but not nearly as bad or quickly as we've described, and they have a dual system whole home water filter.

Thoughts on Goo Gone and on pink water stuff?

We have pink algae in our shower. It takes a few weeks to redevelop after cleaning. What do you have to loose by trying the goo gone on a small area that is difficult to see?

Hell, the sink is all crazy right now as it is - might as well try Goo Gone on one area, right?? Let me ask my husband first so he doesn't freak on me.

Side note, we cleaned our dog's water bowl Sunday and the pink was already back on it last night (Monday). I'll post a pic of that too for poos and giggles.

That pink is a bacteria called serratia marcescens. You should be putting your dog's water dish in the DW every time you run it.

Call Blanco before you void your warranty by using unapproved products.

Agree on calling Blanco before you do *anything* If their sinks have show this before, they'll know what caused it and probably what to do about it.

Also, ditto the dog bowl thing. Plastic is not the best material for a dog bowl because its porous and grows all kinds of stuff. Stainless, ceramic or glass.

No teenagers, but this is a new home construction and there have been subcontractors and construction site cleaners in and out of here for weeks, so I have no way of knowing who/what has gone on. I only know what I have put under our sink and what I have done with the sink.

More info now: last night I tried the whole soak in hot water + Bar Keeper's Friend powder (which I did read directly in a Blanco cleaning PDF was an acceptable alternative to their Activ powder), and I would say there is a 50% improvement. The discoloration is still there, and in the same outline/shapes as before, but it's less contrasted/stark - it's more faint.

Now we're getting somewhere. Someone has apparently etched this sink. They dumped something in and left it without even rinsing. These sinks are essentially Corian acrylic sinks but with quartz instead of aluminum tryhydrate as a filler. I doubt you're going to "goo-gone" your way out of this.

Ditto what Joseph states: you can't scrub etching off.

It seems to me that it's up to the GC to replace the sink. It's his responsibility to make good, as the sink was etched under his watch.

Do y'all think Goo Gone would etch it? It says on the bottle "do not use on...unsealed stone".

Try food grade mineral oil, first rinse the entire sink, then saturate a paper towel with mineral oil and apply an even coat on the entire sink and leave it overnight. Rinse the sink in the next morning, this is to condition the sink. I was able to remove etch on my sink with this method after bar keepers friend doesn't work. Good luck!

Could one of the construction workers have put acetone down the sink and let it sit there? Paint thinner? I would think it was a chemical someone put down the drain and let sit without rinsing it

We have a brown Blanco sink that was installed this spring. Only a couple of days after its installation the sink developed a splotchy, faded look - and, only on the right side of the divided sink. We have not used anything but dish soap in the sink. So, no chemical cleaners or other harsh substances have come in contact with this area. I will try the mineral oil, but I have to say that, for the price of this sink, I couldn't be more disappointed.

Just noticed a similar “wet or oily” discoloration around the sink. In another conversation it was recommended to use the mineral oil and rinse. I will call Blanco tomorrow though as we’ve only had this sink 2 weeks in metallic grey and I never heard of needing to oil it often. Hopefully they’ll give good insight. You’re right this sink is no small amount of change and should really hold up like they claim.

When I had this sink installed back in 2015, I was using bar keepers friend to clean the sink whenever I use BKF to clean my stainless steel pans/pots. I just thought while I am at it, why not clean the sink too! Then I had a round rim of oil that wouldn’t go away after a greasy bowl left in the sink overnight. I was devastated and thought I ruined my sink. Until I read about someone else mentioned using mineral oil to condition and thought, um, maybe I cleaned it too much? So I did the mineral oil soak and ta da, the rim disappeared. Since then I stopped using BKF regularly to clean the sink and just use normal soap to clean at the end of the day and use BKF very gently when there is built up stain (my DH does dishes most of the time and he doesn’t always clean the sink with soap every night so eventually there will be some oil stain over time), I just don’t scrub hard with BKF as I did at the beginning and have not have any problem since, I also didn’t need to use mineral oil since as well. I think the BKF was the culprit for my case that I scrubbed too much with BKF and lost that coat of oil as protection layer?! That’s just my theory but I am happy to say I don’t have any problem with the sink since and it’s been 6 years!

We have the same problem with our new Blanco Siligrant sink. After about 3 weeks of using it it has splotchy discoloration on the sides on the far side from the faucet. I’ve tried - soap, soft scrub, warm vinegar and magic eraser. Our water is typical and balanced city water. Soo disappointed. Planning to call Blanco tomorrow. And yes - replacing the under mounted sink is not easy and it will be expensive for the plumbers time.

I have the same sink. Same thing happened to me. After many searches and sleepless nights I found a site that gave me an easy answer. Buy mineral oil. Clean the sink and let it dry thoroughly. Then with a cotton ball rub down the entire sink and let it dry. It should come back to life. The cost of this experiment is less than $2. Let me know if it helped.

No, an Elkay replacement composite sink is the solution. Two hour job.

@HU-59542671 mineral oil should do the trick. Thoroughly clean the sink at night then rub a generous layer of mineral oil and leave it overnight (Idid it before I go to bed). Rinse clean the next morning and it should be nice and clean again. Doesn’t hurt to try!

Is this mineral oil solution a one-time thing? If not, how often do you have to do it? Also, Joseph Corlett, you mention the Elkay quartz sink above. I often see you recommend the Elkay Luxe quartz sinks. None of those will work for my project. What are your thoughts on their regular quartz sinks? What are the differences?

So….let me see if I am getting this straight. The lighter colored Blanco silgranite sinks get the ugly dark blotchy streaks and the darker colored Blanco sinks like mine (Cinder) get ugly white blotchy streaks? Lovely.

Blueskysunnyday, no oiling it is NOT a one time thing. In my case, I would have to do the oil trick every few days if I wanted it to look like it is supposed to. The blotchy, white streaks just come back in a couple days for me. Trust me it gets old real quick!

I think I have tried every remedy know to man. I have used just about every product that Blanco, other professionals, and regular homeowners on the internet have claimed to have fixed their silgranite sink. Nope, so far there is no miracle cure that I have found. Here is what I have learned works temporarily after 7 years of research

First, I mix a paste of baking soda and vinegar (it will bubble for a second). I wipe on a thick coat of this paste, wait about an hour, scrub it clean, rinse it well, let it dry another hour, and finally wipe on a thick coat of mineral oil (sometimes I use coconut oil) with a soft cloth or paper towel.

Now, at this point NOBODY better come near my sink or turn on the faucet for at least 6 hours or overnight so the oil can soak in. I am the grumpy sink police during this time. One time my poor husband turned on the water when I wasn’t looking, and I became a two year old having a complete meltdown! I literally have to put yellow caution tape across it now.

Now, the next morning, before anyone is allowed to turn on the water, I look at my pretty sink, admire how it looks brand new again, I even caress it for a few seconds. Haha! But now I start getting mad again knowing it is going to be short lived. I am so over it!

I know it is not my fault, but it is still so embarassing to post pictures. However, if it saves someone else my misery, it is worth it.

Below is how disgusting it looks when I haven’t bothered to do my oil “remedy” in maybe a month. What makes me so upset is how it makes me look like a filthy pig who never cleans. The sink‘s sides are worst then the bottom.

Here is after the baking soda/vinegar soak and heavy scrub down. I use a non-scratch sponge. I realize the cinder color looks darker here then the before photo. It is the same sink. It is just because of how I angled my camera to really capture the streaks in the before. Also, it’s still kind of wet after scrubbing.

I sincerely hope this will help someone in the future researching this sink. I know many may not have had my bad experience. I have read plenty reviews though of people having this same issue. I have city water and maybe I have some hard water. I don’t know what causes it, but it is happening everywhere. All I know is that this is how both my Blanco Precis single bowl sink in my cottage looks, and how my Precis Cascade looks in my main house. Here is the cascade after oiling. Sadly it does not look this pretty for long. (heavy sigh)

I actually have the metallic gray sink which is dark. My few spots look like oil stains or look like spots that are still wet. I’ve hardly used the sink. The Blanco directions on the internet say to dry the sink after each use which seems like a big headache. I wasn’t doing that and am wondering if those spots are water spots. Blanco told me the sink is nonporous so I don’t know. I wish I had bought stainless steel like the one I had for 25 years.

I was seriously contemplating a "granite" sink, not Blanco though--either Elkay or Kohler. After seeing this thread, I am so glad that I decided to stick with what I know and what works for me. My white, Kohler cast iron sink is waiting to be connected to the plumbing.

I am having the same issue with my Blanco. As the sink dries out, it loses its colour, it looks parched.. There is absolutely no way, DH will agree to replace this sink. Guess, I’ll invest in mineral oil.
