Sourwood not leafed out and appears to be dead
Comments (8)Oh yeah, I had forgotten about how badly my sourwood tree needed pinebark mulch in my only slightly acidic soil. Last summer I had been so distracted doing some remodeling in a smaller home that I am desiring to move into more soon than later, and because of that I did neglect much of the landscape in the lawn of my present home. Also failing in that back and side yard was 3 of my 6 year old skip laurel shrubs, One of the two potted Heritage birch trees that I was attempting to force them to send up water suckers so that I can get a clump multi trunked tree. Thankfully the other of those two potted birches has survived and is responding very well to my efforts. It just surpised me though that the Sourwood tree would have failed to survive, especially since by 5 years of acclimating to the area, it had previously kept surviving, even though it had not gained much additional height. But especially since it should have been well established in that length of time....See MoreRedbud tree dead but not dead
Comments (11)Some years ago I had a Chinese pistache tree that had been growing beautifully and one spring after leafing out all the leaves drooped. Upon close inspection I could see tiny holes around the trunk below where the branches came out. It was infested with some sort of beetle. I cut the tree below the holes and treated the tree around the ground with a systemic product to target the pests. There was one branch unaffected as it was below the infestation. The tree rapidly grew more branches. Don't give up...look for suspicious damage....See MoreDoes anyone know what kind of tree this is?
Comments (27)Gorgeous and the first I have seen or heard of it. I too wonder why we don't see more of them. I wonder if they would like to live in Houston. We have crepe Myrtle every where here including in my yard, they are in full glorious bloom. I hate how some people have committed crepe murder by cutting them every year to disfigure them so they look so ugly. We were driving in an older area recently and not a single crepe Myrtle had been disfigured that way. They were some of the tallest most gorgeous trees I have seen. It was wonderful to see them as nature intended them to be. I don't know who the idiot was that began the mutilation but they deserve to have some trimming done on them. Mine are completely natural no hack job involved and I love them. That really is a beautiful tree is it near you?...See MoreDoes anyone know what kinds of trees these are?
Comments (9)" No tree is going to survive inside like that for long unless it has greenhouse conditions which is highly unlikely. " False!! These are common houseplants and if given the proper care, they can live inside for many years. They don't require a greenhouse! The photos are a bit far away to show enough detail but the first looks to be Ficus benjamina and the second either a Shefflera or Pachira (money tree). They could be silk as well but look a bit too real for that....See MoreDave in NoVA • N. Virginia • zone 7A
