Pendant Light Height - HELP!
Comments (3)Thanks so much for your help! Yes, forgot to say we have eight foot ceilings. I've noticed that some people here have hung their pendants 24" from ceiling, but that seemed just a little high, so we thought 27" would be OK. Sounds like I'm in the ballpark anyway. I'll also tell my GC to put my chandelier 30" from the table top to the bottom of the fixture, NOT 30" from the ceiling like I thought orginally. Comments (18)For the uplight, you could go a few routes, especially with respect to dimming functionality. And some fixtures don't support dimming, so you need to figure that out. To that end, I suggest you think through the use cases. For example, the use case that I think I'd appreciate most is late evening, after you've retired to another room of the house, at which time a mellow indirect glow from the skylight cutout would be particularly pleasant. You might also want the more light from this source on occasion, in which case you'd want brighter lights on a dimmer. That being said, here's some options. I'm thinking two, centered on the skylights, mounted near the bottom rim of the cutout (just above the beam probably). Regarding the pendant, I know that selecting pendants is hard enough without more to think about, but one downside of a single pendant vs multiple pendants is thhat single sources create worse shadows. And the clear glass pendants above exacerbate this harsh shadow problem by being point sources, whereas the Fillsta, for example, mitigates this problem because it's effectively a uniform 31" sphere of light. This large diffuser also makes it possible to use a brighter source. For example, you could put a 300W equivalent CFL in the Fillsta, but such a bright light would be unacceptably harsh in a point source like the clear glass pendants above....See MoreNeed help to hang a pendant light
Comments (0)I bought a pendant light from a floor sale, but when we tried to hang it, it seems like some parts are missing. No screws, brackets, whatever. All I got is the canopy as you see in the picture. Is there any way that we can fix the pendant light on the ceiling?...See MorePlease help with pendant lights!
Comments (8)You absolutely do not have to keep the type of bulb or wattage . There should be a guide for the max wattage to follow . I will not keep halogen bulbs in any fixtures. I have changed everything to led bulbs in the house . I won't have to change them again for a very long time. Unfortunately some of the fixtures have Gu10 bases which I don't care for but it was very easy to go to ebay and search for Gu10 base led bulbs in the wattage and color temperature I wanted. To us the color temperature is very important we want to have consistency in the house and wanted cool white no warm white those options are available to you on ebay when selecting the bulbs. Finding the base type of the bulbs needed is most important and I found that easily using a Google search . I got quite the education on bulbs. I now own led corn cob bulbs , led COB bulbs, and a few other ones that I had never heard of . I am very happy with the consistency of the light in the house . I just have a few more to finish up. Best prices by far are on ebay , and the brands are the same as the big box stores , we did buy a few regular base led bulbs at Costco . So don't get bogged down thinking you must stick with what comes with the fixtures they often give the cheapest version for them . I agree 25 is too little especially in a warm color temperature . A closed in solid fixture in a pendant will give you a spot light effect not a broad spread of light ....See MoreMaWizz
