Your Favorite Tea Herbs...include recipes please!
Comments (25)Mint Teas: Makes a gallon - use only glass containers, plastic leaves a funny after taste. I use those glass jugs that apple juice/cider is often sold in. Citris Mint Tea (this is my Mom's favorite and I got the recipe from her): In a large pan (eventually needs to comfortably hold a gallon of liquid), bring 5 cups water to boil. Turn off heat and add a bunch of mint(I use 10-20 sprigs of mint, various kinds, and depending how strong I want it). Add 10 pinches or teaspoons of loose black tea (again depending how strong you want the "tea" flavor). Cover and let steep for 2 (two) hours. In a sauce pan, bring 5 cups water to boil, reduce heat and add 2 cups sugar (I only use one cup, because I don't like my tea too sweet), one cup lemon juice, and one frozen 12oz can orange juice concentrate. Keep well stirred until well disolved/mixed. Cover, turn off heat and let sit 2 hours. after the two hour wait: Add the juice mixture to the tea mix. Add 8 cups cold water and stir/mix well. Remove mint sprigs w/ tongs. Strain mixture using a very fine strainer into 1 gallon jug and top off with cold water if needed. Shake jug and refrigerate. Serve cold, over ice. You may want shake jug prior to each serving. Apple-Cinnamon Mint Tea (This one I came up with by making substitutions to the above recipe, as I prefer apples to oranges) In large pot (again eventually will hold nearly a gallon of liquid) bring 5 cups water to boil. Turn off Heat Add 10-20 sprigs mint add 10 pinches-teaspoons loose black tea (to taste) Add 2-3 cinnamon sticks. Don't use powdered cinnamon, it doesn't dissolve, found this out the hard way. Cover and let steep 90 minutes. In a saucepan bring the following to near boiling, but don't let it boil. Mainly just want it hot enough to get the sugar to dissolve: 4 cups unfiltered apple juice (has a cloudy white color to it) 2 cups cranberry juice (to replace the lemon tartness of the earlier recipe and complements apple better than lemon) 1/4 (1 quarter) cup brown sugar Stir until dissolved/mixed cover and turn off heat, let sit 90 mins. I originally used frozen apple juice concentrate, but it ended up too syrupy/sticky for some reason - using the actual juice turned out much better. After the 90 min wait: Add juice mix to tea pot, turn on heat to get it all steaming again and stir well. Then cover and remove from heat for another 30-40 minutes. Add 8 Cups cold water and stir. remove mint and strain the mix into 1 gallon jug, top off with cold water if needed. Cap and shake jug, refrigerate and serve cold over ice....See MoreNew or Favorite Summer Drinks ....please add yours to this list
Comments (28)I think this is a good starting point. I looked for the recipe I first used but think it must have been on a rum bottle or?? One thing I've learned is to NOT put the mint in the simple syrup (when making the syrup) instead of muddling it. I did that one time per a friend's instruction and YUCK it made the mojito taste like mouthwash. In a 16 ounce mixing glass, gently muddle together: 1 large sprig spearmint .75 oz simple syrup Add: 1 oz of fresh squeezed lime juice and pulp 2 oz white rum (sometimes called Silver Rum) I use Castillo Silver 3 oz club soda or sparkling mineral water Top with crushed ice and mix until drink is combined and glass is frosty. I used to use club soda, but now use Gerolsteiner mineral water that I buy at Trader Joe's. I've tried other mineral waters, but it's the only one I like I'd not use any other...if you can't find it, use club soda and use a name brand, not a house brand. I like Schweppes the best. Comments (25)Thank you all so much! I will definately keep my eye out for those! We did get the pizza dough, but it wasn't frozen, so now I will look for the frozen. We tried the fresh whole wheat pizza dough last night for pizza on our Big Green Egg. It was really good! msrose, I have tried the goat milk and it isn't bad, how do you like it? It taste like cow's milk to me, but with a bit of a twang, I'm sure I could get used to it. It is suppose to be SO MUCH better than cow's milk that has caseine, which can cause cancer. I know, can't just about everything?? Frustrating! The WF lunchmeat deli did look really good, but we already had quite a bit left, so wanted to use that up first, The roast beef looked delish! Will definately be back for that! And the roast turkey, since you mentioned it! I've been making smoothies for my DS with all the organic fruits (I sneak in a little spinach too). He loves them!...See Moreplease list your favorite red roses!!
Comments (27)Thank you rosecanadian and Diane! They always seem to have the red mini at Grocery Outlet. I like it a lot, I think I have about ten of them by now : ). Every once in awhile their mini roses go on sale for 2 or 3 bucks each, and it is always the one to catch my eye. They grow pretty large for a mini roses; I think they are either a foot and a half or two feet tall. I love "Crimson Glory." I think it has the best smell out of all the roses I've ever smelled. "Paul's Scarlet Climber" is a great climbing rose, and a very profuse bloomer. It has one glorious bloom in the spring and scattered bloom throughout the rest of the growing season, and a smaller bloom again in fall. The picture I posted of it is from last year, but unfortunately this year it has slowly begun to die from some kind of gall growing at the crown and along the canes. My dad took some cuttings a couple years ago and we planted another one on the other side of the arbor, and another one on a different arbor. I hope they grow to cover the arbors like the original, I think we may have planted them too close to the structures. Have a nice weekend everyone, damask_rose : )...See MorePipdog
