many yellow plants.. need full sun to color properly ...

was this greenhouse grown??? .. what do you mean.. you took delivery .. mail order???

At this time of year and as it is a new introduction I would imagine it would be more than likely greenhouse grown? I understand about sun giving color to foliage but I always notice that GH literally emerges from the ground with that bright gold color.

I've had my new White Gold for about a month now and it is very bright gold in color - looks identical to Goldheart........no flowers yet. Mine was also greenhouse grown but looked very gold from the start so that shouldn't really have any bearing. And Lamprocapnos spectabile are shade plants so that shouldn't affect coloring ether. As mentioned, GH is gold regardless of shade conditions and from its earliest emerging from the ground.

I'd give it some time to see if acclimation results in golder foliage but in my very limited experience with this plant, it should be GOLD!

If so, does the retailer have a return policy?

One year, I decided to return herbaceous perennials which I could tell had not survived into their second year (up to maybe ten: several gardens).

Got the money back but really had better things to do. Think retailers probably count on customers feeling that way.

Do, however, find more expensive perennials (if planted for the growing conditions), notably our hellebores, do tend to be among the survivors.

Given the location of this retailer it is not practical to do a return.

(I do my best to save receipts for those retailers which provide a warranty. In fact just today I dug out said papers to make returns for 2 veronica ("Enchanted Indigo") and one Neptune Gold Sea Holly).

Braved the rain and freak hail storm to snap a photo of my White Gold (still unplanted - too wet to do much yet this spring!!). It is in front of a still small hydrangea but it is even golder in person than it shows in the photo.

White Gold - how interesting. Didn't even know it existed. Like you Rouge, I LOVE my pink gold bleeding heart - it comes up early and shows it stuff before the normal (pink) one - in fact, mine is in full bloom now. Funny, the pink and gold are so striking together, even though it has piqued my curiousity, I'm not sure how interested I would be in white...now if it were electric purple...:-)

I think some think that pink and gold are a bit....'clashing' ;) whereas white goes with anything ;).

Yeah yeah...I grew up with that 'rule' too. Must be why you will find nary a white flower in my garden! :-)

Ah, quick, Rouge. - take some cuttings of your gold one before it goes into flower. Look down at the base of the plant for some nice branchlets and nip off just below a node, pop into some perlite or sand (and maybe a small amount of sterile potting mix) water and cover and keep in a cool and shady place for 3-4 weeks.

Afraid pink and gold (yellow) is the worst possible colour combo (for me). Sadly, the standard pink 'Gold Dicentra' is the only one available in the UK...so making do with dicentra alba (and tbf. not really a sacrifice as it is a lovely plant...so unlike the horrid pinkish formosa/eximia types (apols to lovers of this but I really, really dislike it).

Funny, I am not a lover of pink, and you generally don't see it in my garden except for the bleeding hearts. Pink generally reminds me of Pepto Bismal. But somehow this combination works for me - it really pops where I've got it. But funny, I also don't tend to have white flowers in my garden. Reminds me of a hospital. Funny that.

With no/little "white" and not being a lover of "pink" your garden must be a dazzling display of....red...blue...yellow and...green? ;). Is there a predominant color?

Even though I truly dislike pink flowers, I had a small shady section in my old garden that was sort of devoted to this gold foliage/pink flowers combo. Eventually it became one of my favorite little garden vignettes. It included the aforementioned dicentra Gold Heart, Ribes 'Brocklebankii', gold variegated Japanese forest grass and pink hyacinths. To relieve some of the gold, I also included purple leafed heuchera and a dark flowered astrantia.

I really like the drama if the colors with gold heart. Since it's a Spring flower when all else is so drab, the strong coloration is welcome. I also have a white bleeding heart and love it -all colors are welcomed in the Spring.

Probably the green you mentioned! :-) Remember, my (back) garden is shade, so many of the plants I was introduced to as I began my journey to gardening ecstasy were ones suited to that environment, so often any flowers were more an interesting side effect - things like foliage and texture, and exploring different shades of green - from black/green straight through to white/green. Then learning more about certain flowers which actually thrive in shade, as compared to sun...I'm thrilled to still be learning...

Now the front postage-sized garden is another matter - it's my sun playground which I just started digging up in earnest last season! And I can barely remember all the colours I threw in there - and yes, in spite of my words, I'm sure there is some pink and white therein...

UPDATE:

It has definitely "goldened up" these last few weeks. I am convinced it is WG. It is in the ground and healthy with all this rain and cool. We will look forward to seeing it next spring.

Oooh me likey the color foliage it has!!! Since I've painted my house I want so many yellow/gold/lime/chartreuse plants now...I'll be checking these out now as well! Thanks
