Picking out a tree for narrow spot

Susan C

Hoping I can get some ideas from you! I'm looking for a tree that will be seen from our stairwell, yet not block too much light. Ideally it would grow 20-40 feet, be rather narrow, but most important, let plenty of light thru. This is for the Seattle area (zone 8).

Separate question - can I prune any tree, remove a bunch of branches so that it is more bare and lets more light thru? I love Aspen trees, but worried about its root system and how tall would get.
