Growing under lights, still need to harden off?

J Pru

I dipped my toe into forcing my dahlias under grow lights this year... At this point in the year, I am getting ready to put my window-grown dahlias outside to harden off for a week or so before going into the garden. Do I need to do this with the ones grown under lights as well? I would think they would be more tolerant of full sun than the others, which were shielded by my window panes, but I'm not sure.

BTW, I did an experiment comparing window plants vs. grow light plants, and the grow light plants are a little bit shorter, darker leaved, but the stems are MUCH thicker (when comparing the same varieties). The window grown plants have stalks that are thinner and more spindly, and they are all tending to bend towards the windows. Down side: my electric bill was horrific the past 2 months.
