Comments (1)Lovely picture, Margaret. It seems remarkable that after such a record-setting summer, we are having a fairly normal September. I won't complain. The heat was exhausting. Something different from our usual Junuary was a huge kick start! I made some mistakes, early and late. My plants are rather spent, nearly past tense, almost kaput. Some, like the peppers, are unloading! Having gardens in more than one place has been "educational," right along. Late-planted summer squash has behaved normally and productively in one garden. In another location, mildew is steamrolling 'em! Those young plants look almost as bad as their older brothers and sisters. Shoulda sprayed them to slow that mildew. I've got lots of green tomatoes, too. Trying to protect some plants from wind by setting them on the north side of a sunflowers ... well, as you have noted, the season isn't over yet! Steve...See MoreThis week's blooms in Kansas
Comments (13)Apothecary's Rose, looking rather battered by the rain Zéphirine Drouhin Sequoia Greenfield, also rather chlorotic. And since it is probably the rarest rose I own, I should definitely take good care of her since as far as I know she is irreplaceable... Oshun..only half of this plant is chloritic lol. It is the best smelling rose open right now.. And while I was posting this, decided to try again to catch the actual color of Ebb Tide since the previous picture was a bit off. aand, another pic of Sophie's Perpetual. The fragrance of this one has been more complex this spring than in previous years. It has usually had just a very nice sweet fragrance, but this year there are definitely anise undertones I hadn't noticed before....See MoreWeek 3! Another surprise at my front door!
