Opinions please re one or two lights above vanity
Comments (8)Personally, my least favorite look for bathroom lighting is one long light fixture (too many years of living with those horrid Hollywood light bars, I guess) so I'd vote for two smaller fixtures centered over the medicine cabinets. Would you have space to consider using sconces instead? It's typically much more flattering to have light on either side of a mirror rather than above it. Depending on how wide your medicine cabinets are, perhaps something like these... Comments (3)Thank you for that well thought-out answer. My old light... very old... was one of those Hollywood strips like yours but it had some half-tube ivory-toned hard sheer shade around it - it was actually great for light... 6 bulbs ... and that shade made it diffuse. I do have a dimmer switch and tended to keep it about at medium. My mirror is probably going to be over 40" wide ... as wide as I can get it up to 48" and have it be a square, over the 48" vanity. I was afraid sconces to the sides of the mirror would be too far away, and if on the mirror, well that's a different look and also I kind of worried about odd shadows and no clear illumination. (But if good illumination is possible with a couple sconces - and at least with those 100-watters I'd hope it would be! - then that option goes back on the table.) I thought the simplest thing might be hanging that first one right over the sink so the little fake crystals dangle just in front of the top of the mirror... in other words kind of high to the ceiling. That way I'd have one light, it would be overhead where I know the last one worked well, and it adds a little design element. (A foo-foo design element, but one nonetheless... and my bathroom looks ever so slightly less like a model T or old Singer sewing machine.) This would be the only fixture in the bathroom....See More4 bathroom sink/vanity choices...which one?
Comments (4)Thank you Sue. I think the Nameeks sinks are about the same price as the ikea cabs if I get the ikea with the ikea sink/counter option. If I install my own counters/sinks, the ikea will be more money. One Nameek sink is $350-450 and the ikea will be about 400. I like the clean look of Nameek, but not sure about the lack of storage. Maybe I should put one floating sink in a bath that I have a ny loft storage cab. for, one ikea cab. in the guest bath suite, and the double floating sinks in the master? Or two floating ikea cabs in the master? I am not sure of the quality of ikea bath countertops... Thank you for the link for costco. I will def. check these out. They look like they may be more expensive than the ikea or nameeks options though....See MoreKitchen cupboards...which one dark or light???
Comments (4)Got it. It’s a lot of wood either way you go, but I recall that you love all the wood. I’m fine with the dark cabinets. At least fine enough that there’s no way I’d personally bite off stripping and redoing all of them. I’d say finish what you started, replace your light fixtures, and drastically improve your lighting sources so that you have better light available....See MoreRelated Professionals
