Advice on hardwood transition
Comments (4)You are right that walnut is softer. But all wood will dent, scratch etc. And given your current conditions with no kids and a non running dog any species you decide will be fine. If price is a concern walnut may not be the best. But then again theres not too many natural dark species that arent expensive. Are you going prefinish?? Another species options to consider that are naturally dark with different shade variations are most exotics. i.e Ip (brazilian walnut) Brazilian Cherry. Santos Mahogany. Teak. Comments (3)i see no reason to change the arches. yes, its how houses were built *then* but thats not really a sin. i have arches... do i know they 'dreaded d -word' my vacation house, yes i do. do i care, no i do not. i know for sure that anything built today will be dreaded d word in 15 years, including 'timeless modern farm houses' and 'faux arts n crafts'. i'd spend the time/money on something else....See MoreHow to change from traditional to transitional & contemporary decor
Comments (12)I was in a funk when I bought that ugly sofa but will work on other things first. So much brown! I also am very tired of the cabinet & considering placing TV on fireplace wall vs. no tv and large decorative fireplace wall item. Our books & records are important to us; we don't have space for bookshelves elsewhere. This room is used primarily for reading, listening to music, talking with friends. Will rearrange shelves as suggested by deegw (above) & add some colorful decorative objects Paint the shelves? Will definitely replace fireplace screen as well as wrought iron railing going upstairs. Any advice for end tables, lighting/ lamp ideas? I like the teak coffee table suggestion; I was also considering large ottoman. Accessory color ideas? The dog stays!! Thank you. Appreciate your comments so very much....See MoreWill this look bad? How would you transition this flooring?
Comments (11)I didn’t realize this new room has slidders going off to the pool. This changes my thinking. You can mix woods as long as they have the same undertones in it. I think the dark and light look good together as long as they have the same undertones. I love the flooring that you have chosen. It would be fun to decorate around. I can kind of visualize the look you want and I say go for it!...See Morepablomrt
