Nice! I had one show up about 3 days ago. I also have a male downy woodpecker show up again, drinking the syrup, just like he did last year!

That's a very hungry male hummingbird! He probably had a long flight to get to your feeder.

I've had a few hummers visiting but I think they're transients because they don't hang around - they just eat and run. The Baltimore orioles on the other hand enjoyed drinking from the hummer feeder (until they discovered the jelly feeders).

My first hummingbird! Do they like roses?

river, roses don't have nectar, so they aren't feeding. What they are probably doing in the climber is stalking their feeding plants. We have a feeder near a climbing rose and one hummer just sits there and if he sees another hummer go to the feeder, he darts out and chases it away. Once after a rainstorm, I saw hummers visiting my roses. I realize they were drinking water that had collected on the leaves and in the flowers. It was pretty neat.

I had my first one on April 24th, the day it snowed and we had winds gusting to 40 mph! What a day to arrive in warm, sunny Ohio .... I've since see 2 males and a female, they love the buckeye trees. katbird, keep checking, I'm just up the road in Germantown.

Hey Matt Maybe you can help me identify a bird I saw yesterday. I don't know if it is a resident or just passing through. It is a yellow bird (like a goldfinch) about 5 inches (the size of a wren, maybe) with a large black mask across it's eyes. Tried to identify it from the birding websites on the internet, but wasn't too sure. The closest ID I could find was a black and white warbler, but that seemed to have too much black and white.

Another hummer this morning. Since corunum AKA Jane discovered that links to videos were still being posted while jpg pics were not, I took a video - you can see the urgency with which she fills up with the nectar solution. The migrants are still coming through the pipeline - a good reason to keep feeders up. Claire (sounding like a broken record)
