I think a soft earthy tan or light beige would be pretty with the brick and would work well with the style of your house. Something like this maybe.

It's kind of safe, but I wouldn't want to go with too much color because I think it would compete with the brick too much.

I might go with a gray closer to the color of the mortar.

It looks like there's not that much brick, but more siding that shows. Since you can choose any color roof you want, I think you could just about pick any paint color you want to. Maybe not ANY color, but if you want a blue house, you could find a blue that works, or a gray, or a green, then get a complementary roof.

When I read your thread this morning, my first thought was an earthy sage green (too) because it's a complimentary color to orange, but when I googled green siding with orange brick, the pictures of examples didn't show as well with the orange brick as I assumed it would. My point is, if color is really your goal, finding the right tone may be a bit more of a challenge.

Love the blues Oly posted and wish I had the confidence to paint our house that color. When done right, it can really make a statement.

Thanks for the replies. My current siding is a washed out grey and would like to get some more color. I like the green and blue ideas and have been thinking for a while to maybe use a richer grey as a starting point and then see how progressively more green and blue added to the grey looks until I get all the way to a blue or green. There are so many shades of green and I guess blue as well that it makes it a challenge. Thanks for posting the sample pics and the green in the first 2 pics looks like a really nice choice. The blue looks good as well. I know sometimes things grow on you and other times the opposite. Thks!

I was going to try to post some color examples with your picture but your photo is too small digitally. If you upload a larger pic (600x600) I can help you try some color schemes that include the shutters and door. It would also give you a better visual if you use a pic that is taken more from in front and not at such a large angle.

I think the blue is nice especially with the brick but what color would you use for your trim and shutters? Even though I like the blue, one reason I still lean more towards a neutral color is because I also like to change things out every few years and there are a lot more color options for the shutters and door if the siding is in a neutral color. Another consideration is, depending on where you live, should you choose to install vinyl siding, I've heard that some of the richer colors can fade.

I know your struggle all too well. We have aluminum siding too and have been looking at our options for a while. I don't want vinyl and would love to install the cement board but it's out of our budget. We may end up just keeping the aluminum and repainting too.

We have the same brick. There were a lot of suggestions on my thread "Once bitten twice shy". We decided on paint when I weighed the cost/longevity of vinyl/aluminum siding. That and the color options.

Thanks for the thoughts on colors and aluminum vs vinyl! I'll check out the other thread and post a more frontal pic later today. Is my first pic not 600 x 600? I took it on my phone a emailed it to my computer and it is showing as 4160 x 3120 on my computer before I upload it.

I'd paint the siding a medium gray, the shutters and garage a dark gray and the front door any color you like

I think any of your choices would look good (but the tan needs to be less yellow), but I like the green a lot. As far as trim...I'd consider doing something like this like shown on the pic I posted above, with any of your color choices:

Dave, Gardenweb must size down photo's when they're being uploaded. I was going to just use the color tool on the Benjamin Moore site. It lets you define areas and color away.

In Arcy's thread an Olive green was photo shopped by a couple of people and I have to say, if color is what you're hoping for, that green looks pretty nice with the brick.

I haven't been thrilled with most of the lighter greens but this one isn't bad either though it does look a little washed out.

Thanks again for all the help. I am leaning towards a green color and a lot of good ideas to consider. I am going to sit with it for a few weeks as I have learned sometimes colors grow on me over time. Here is a frontal picture - not a complimentary angle - house doesn't have great lines like some of the older houses in my area.

Just as an FYI, it's harder to find compatible color options for the shutters when you use color as opposed to a neutral like gray.

Whatever you do, don't leave the garage door white.

Good idea about the garage door - not keeping it white- it actually is a very light grey to match the washed out siding but I agree

I think every one of lukki's pics looks wonderful, esp with the roof color. But since you will be changing the roof, I'd find a color combo you like with the brick and ignore the roof. Not sure if you're up for it lukki, but is it possible to put a darker roof on and try some colors for the trim that don't coordinate so well with the current roof?

Maybe Dave could suggest his fave house color and you could mix it up with different shutter color and darker roof? I guess I'd love to see a steel blue/gray with ?? cream shutters or ?? and a darker roof. Maybe a house color that would coordinate with black or dark gray shutters?

Would it be sacrilege to ask to see what it looks like without the bright white band that cuts the house in half? The rest of the trim could stay white, but I'd really like to see how it looks without that horizontal band that (to me) breaks the house in half and makes it look squatty, with the low angled roof.

I like this look as well My3dogs, think it's very smart looking, and here it is with the white line gone. I did the piece over the window the same color as the shutters.

Oly, I'm not sure if I got the steel blue right, are either of the last set of blues what you were looking for? If not, can you show me an example of it? Doesn't have to be the exact color, I just don't know if it's dark or light. :c/

Looking very good. There are so many good options and really brings the house to life. The dark roof adds contrast to the house and I was originally thinking either a grey or darker roof like you posted. I too like the Finnie Gray. The Mineral Alloy and Brush Blue are close seconds. Wow, Lukki, those all look terrific!! I didn't really have anything specific in mind, just thought dark blue might look great with the darker roof and brick. I do esp like the one where you disappeared the white line a lot, too.
