Very nice, WebKat, and yes, you are indeed lucky. Altho I think growing native plants is a trend to be watched closely right now, I wish we had more native plant nurseries around OKC. There are a select few plants you can find that can be lumped into the "native forbs" category, but you have to really look for them. MissSherry - I pulled out a flat of something the other day when my lawn was being mowed - it was behind something and I hadn't seen it in awhile, and there are a few seedlings of Zizia growing in it! You might want to check your pots and pans, too! Seemed like it took them an awfully long time to grow, doesn't it? Oh, geez, Linda, I know the feeling about pipevine. Wonder if Edith has some still? I need to call her. I checked on the Oklahoma Gardening forum, but no one has any. One lady said she tried to grow the vine a few years ago, but it "...kept being eaten by worms!" I went out today and there are MORE eggs, just like I thought there would be. Well, I'll feed them what I can, and then they'll just have to go ahead and pupate as smaller cats, smaller butterflies. You see, since I've been pinching my A. clematitis, I'm getting all kinds of new growth on it, new suckers are coming up everywhere. But, they're still small - about 4-5" tall. Well, the PVS mamas must LOVE this new tender growth to lay their eggs, cuz I have about 25 more eggs today. I haven't found any more on the other pipevines, but they will have to eat some tomentosa. I don't know what's wrong with my A. macrophylla, other than it's just taking a while to become established in the ground. I should have left it in pots like the tomentosa, because it is 4 to 5 times larger than the macrophyllas. I keep feeding it, but it's just taking it's own sweet time. Susan

Thanks for all these new road trip places to visit! The other direction we go often if up to St Clous area. We go up I-94 then cut over to Hyw 10 at Rogers. That way we can stop at 101 Market in Otsego which has grown so much over the years. You could also hit Busse's on one of their open house weekends. I don't remember how to get there just that it is out in the country. Maybe someone else remembers. Plantman: As you know, Longwood is on Route 1. If you go a bit more east, you will see Route 52 into Delaware. Winterthur is down there about 20 minutes from Longwood. They have a site you can view. Since you will be on Route 1, you can catch the nurseries out this way on your way back to Harrisburg. I would stop at Groff's off of Route 472. It has nice plants depending on when you visit. Last year, it took until mid-summer for them to show some plants. However, they usually have some nice prices. There are other nurseries out here too and some on Route 472 north of Kirkwood. The one I use for shrubs is on Route 10, just 100 yards north of Route 1. It is on the right and you can see it as you make your north turn onto Route 10 from Route 1. I think it is called Britestar. The trick with them is their sales. Normally they are 40 percent off in mid-Summer. I have purchased 3 Dragon Lady hollies there--among about 80 other plants. For comparison, without a sale, Britestar sells Dragon Ladies for about $60 vs. about $150 at Styer's which is East of Route 202 on Route 1. Keep posting here about your trip and I will check other nurseries in this area. If you want some diversions on your trip, let me know. There is an interesting little town out here--Strasburg--and just north of that on Route 896 and Route 30 is Rockvale Square Outlets.

I enjoy going to both these places. I haven't been to Mary's in a couple of years, but plan on giving yourself plenty of time to walk through it. They have a lot of greenhouses, and if you're like me, you want to check out every plant in each one! :o) The Daylily Farm is another wonderful place. The last time I was there, they had also expanded into hostas and some other perennials. You might want to go there first, then to Mary's since the Daylily Farm has the better prices. I'm not sure where you're located, but if you're close to Murfreesboro, TN, you might want to check out Martin's. I used to make an annual "pilgrimmage" to McMinnville until I discovered Martin's.
