Pumice as mulch

Hi,

I live in a subtropical semiarid climate of new delhi where summers get hot dry temperatures reaching 45-50 C for few months then humid monsoon rains for two months and then the fall. All my plants are in large clay pot on my terrace which is shaded by a cloth in summers. I have three questions regarding pumice as following:

  1. I have got a large bag of pumice stones they are around size of 20 mm. Can i use them in my soil mix for aeration purpose?

2. Can i use crushed pumice as summer mulch to protect my potted soil from fast evaporation?

3. Can i stand my clay pots on top of a layer of pumice stones to act them as insulators from floor heating up?

Thanks.
