I've done well with a mix of course wood shavings and spaghum peat moss. Here's a picture of the mix. Plants just starting. Here's the best blueberry I've ever grown by a huge margin, Sweetcrisp. Picture is one year after prior picture. Here's a 7 year old Star that yielded more than 15 lbs this year and has never been repotted. It's been in a 15 gal pot 7 years. My best advice is get a Sweetcrisp. It's like a whole different fruit. Very sweet and amazingly crisp. All other blueberries I've tried, about 30 cultivars, are like mush by comparison.

They DID have bark fines. Just wasn't sure if they weren't TOO fine. I don't have a reference point. Anyone with a pic of how fine 'fine bark' ought to be is welcome to post it. Meanwhile, my new goodies sit in the back of my van...4 flights of steps down. I just went down to try to find a hand cart or a man or something (not that they are equivalents, mind you!) and it's like a ghost town in my apartment complex. It's already too hot. And my poor babies are sitting root-bare in the shade, waiting for their new soil. I really had hoped that soil and pumice wouldn't weigh so much! You know, you think it's smart to send your son off to college...until you have some rocks that need to be brought upstairs and you don't want to give your husband a hernia! I, too, have been known to come home with rocks from vacations. I have them from nearly everywhere I've been. So do my kids. I try to put them in my fairy gardens and pot displays. I've moved them (in tackle boxes and crates) from place to place, too. If I had FREE rocks?! I'd be in heaven. If someone got them up the stairs for me.

wriggler: Time is your friend here. After making the pile either make several more piles or do something fun for 15 minutes. Then when you begin brushing off the top of the pile it should be devoid of worms. Also setting the worm pile on something where the harvest of vermicompost can be brushed off right into a waiting container helps make the job easier. I sometimes sit on on 5 gallon pail upturned. Place a second pail in front of me. Then a piece of cardboard holds the pile of worm rich vermicompost. Every 15 minutes I brush a layer of vermicompost off the cardboard into the bin. The cardboard half covers the pail so it is easily captured. Possibly an inch each time is removed. Others will probably chime in with inventive and easy methods they have worked out. Most of us age our harvested vermicompost. Why? Possibly because most is used in the spring. It helps finish it. Plus all the eggs hatch and the babies are harvest the same as the adults. This is before they are old enough to have laid eggs.

Hello Rahmi T W , hank you for sharing The good thing is your problems are easily fixed. It has plenty of good roots left. I find most H. cymbiformis not having very deep roots. Their roots do rot quickly. I don't know how quickly container plants dry in your hour or outside. You were correct to water less often, but you may need to water even less than a week. You should check with your finger. (inserting your finger to the depth of your finger's second (middle) knuckle. Make sure your container has drainage holes!! What does black lava sand look like? Sand used for succulents should be gritty, NOT fine. Very Fine sand compacts, creating a dam. Compost is heavy & holds lots of water. You need to add something to make the soil light and something to create sizeable air pockets. I do not know what is readily available your area. In my area people use perlite, pumice, bark mulch, heavier grit sand and other lava rocks. They each provide the soil air pockets and help with drainage. To lighten the soil, we use coconut coir, peat moss, bark mulch & rice husk. As you probably noticed back mulch can serve as both, but only if is ground fine with some visible pieces. You can look up all the difference online, but here are a few; Perlite is very light. You can crush with your hands. Hold almost no water and no nutrient.) Pumice is a lava rock, it hold some moisture. I also is good at holding nutrients (& has some) for the plants to access Left to Right; Pumice (medium size grade), Pumice (small size grade), Black lava medium, Perlite Sorry, I did not have any plain small grade pumice. It varies from gritty sand to the larger pieces in the picture. I use both sizes. This is soil from four different local growers. The far right is same person with different type of plant. We all use different additives, but we all have some lightness and good drainage. You can see the back mulch. She used mostly bark mulch with some pumice & coir My soil below is a little overboard, but I like it I use one part container potting soils with compost (two different types), 1 part pumice (2:1 med-small), 1 part perlite (I usually end up adding more of the container soil.)
