And I know he likes exacting work. I think he just expected to pop those puppies in. He is the carpenter that made my soapstone vanity stand and my cabinets for my first bathroom install. This is my second bathroom. Lee, thank you so much. I really take that as a complement! So you need pocket door hardware. The actual mechanism is by Linnea but it didn't come with an edge pull. I found the Sugatsune edge pulls that blended nicely so I picked them up. Can you use "flush pulls"? This summer I had it in my other bathroom waiting for this room to get done. My 3 year old grandson pulled it over. Fortunately he didn't get hit! So I would only recommend the setup to responsible adults ;) I love it though. Regarding the medicine cabinet, tonight I might install the LED track. I had to order special adaptor that I missed on my original order. My electrician is ok with me doing this portion. He installed the hard wire 12volt. I will attach the LED strip and the infrared on/off switch. I did a plug-in setup in my laundry cabinet with the infrared and it has worked beautifully so far. Raehelen, many questions...with answers for you:) The medicine cabinet door is an actual medicine cabinet door that I acquired 20 years ago. I didn't even know about any of this stuff. It sat in my basement for all this time. I almost gave it away to Habitat for Humanity. When I was looking for medicine cabinets this past summer 2013 (you aren't the only one with a year long bathroom project, I'm sorry to report :( Anyway when looking, I saw a Robern medicine cabinet at Fergeson's and thought about my Robern cabinet door, "could I have an actual medicine cabinet door?" I did. It is huge! The door is double sided mirror, but the inner mirror is not as wide as the outer mirror. The inner area is a sturdy plastic with spots for hinges. That is what told me it was the same as the med cab on display. I thought that my cab maker could get those hinges and install the door onto a box. The edge is a black plastic that as a channel or grove all along the edges. It is about 1/5" thick. It seems you may have said that. The pulls were a real struggle for me. I wanted minimalist and safety. I saw similar pulls but there was always a sharp edge to the sticky out part. I kept visualizing my naked thigh getting gored by a sharp pull! Mine have a gentle radius that is not edgy. These pulls, I found at Goingknobs dot com. To me it is more stable with the particle board construction of the walnut veneer cabinets.

Mclarke, See? that was (and still is) my thinking too --- or at least how my mind's eye saw it should/shouldn't be. But taking into account all the replies (and they were all so right-on about it), I realized I was focusing too much on 'the look' and not what would be the best function for us. My plan when doing this bathroom: I'm not leaving this house without a toe-tag so I wanted everything as perfect for me as I could get it, for the long-term. This same height cab and wall is going to be very hard for this slightly (ha!) anal person to get used to! LOL Annie1971, Oh shoot---had I known, I would have saved all zillion white with pink speckled tiles for you! *g* Before joining this board, all those years with the pink tiles, I was brought up to 'match', to coordinate. So, all those years I went with a pink or mauve or burgundy bathroom. After joining this forum I learned how I could have worked 'with' that tile. I wish I had known about this forum years ago--would have saved me years of bathroom color boredom! And Mclark, I DO have very old, very pretty amber colored glass bottles. They remind me of pharmacy glass bottles. I'll dig them out of storage sometime this week and hopefully they will fit on the top shelf of the med cab. With the new, bigger window the light will reflect on the pretty amber color of the bottles. Great Idea - Thank you! You all were so helpful in making me focus on the function and other little points I hadn't thought about I figured I'll stick some pics in here to show you what we've done. As much as I'd like the cab to stay where it's at (held up with 2 screws so we could get the books out of there/out of the way so we could work on other things), function would be wrong so it's going up a couple inches. During the med. cab height dilemma, we also found the rounded front of the plywood countertop hindered me from getting close to the mirror. Countertop shape has been changed and I'm very pleased with that part. Again, all of you -- Thank you so very much!

I'm happy to report that the cabinet guy is back today and, after we shared a chuckle about my mishap (yes, I'm laughing about it now)....he went to work disguising it. He has touchup paint that should do the job. (crossing fingers) But, in the end, it's just a kitchen and is meant to be used. I already have a backup plan...when my pristine white cabinets get *worn* I could always switch to a Shabby Chic look! lol!!

As this is something that came up for me this week, I'll add this question because it might be something you want to consider. If you are planning to light the cabinet to showcase your pieces, wouldn't you want glass shelves so the light illuminates all the items? I live in earthquake country, so I'm still on the fence about glass shelves and my precious pieces. Isn't it amazing how one question during the design and installation process just leads to another? :-)
