I was wondering about that show. The high schools have sent home emails cautioning parents about it.

I'm also curious about this series. I've head so many mixed descriptions. I'll have to watch it before I comment. Thanks for the reminder.

I have not seen the series, but 13 people getting tagged in the blame? To me, I would want my children to develop coping skills, and focus on ways to communicate if others were hurting or disparaging them.

I'm not saying that some youngsters don't receive a lot of abuse, they do, but to me I don't see how a litany of fault finding ending with death is helpful.

My students are watching and talking about this show. It has not been a positive influence but I deal with teens with deep emotional problems. At some point "learning" turns to glorifying and for my students glorifying is absolutely how they take this show. The morays of our country have changed greatly in the last 25 years. Just because we CAN look, talk, do doesn't mean it is good for us or that we should. It is more than just frightening what all this is doing to teens. 'What goes in is what comes out' my mom used to always say--and now I know what she meant. :(

Paris Jackson, a suicide survivor, warns teens about this show. My teens went through many ups and downs, much more so than I did as a teen.

What good can come out of this show? Possibly to educate others on how their actions can impact others in very profound ways? Awareness of teen suicide?

The fact that the girl does commit suicide in the final scene and does not get help instead is scary to me.

As I said, it's not for everyone and I think it could cause more harm than good in certain people/situations. But what it taught me was that bullying and stalking are far more widespread today and the advent of smartphones has greatly contributed to this. Selena Gomez was a producer, and she has a well documented history of being cyber bullied and has sought treatment for it. It also reminded me that teenagers do not have the emotional maturity to handle situations like adults do. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among adolescents.

I haven't seen it.

I think my point of view on the topic is, it is a something very important to be discussed. It's not an easy thing to broach, and maybe it could help some see into the mind of the modern teenager. Tough subject matter will get backlash. Every time. Sweeping it under the carpet surely can't help. There may be a better way to get at it, but at least something is happening. It's been too hushity hush for too long. Lives are at stake here.

I read the book before I realized they were making it into a show. It's a good book.

We binge watched it last weekend. I have mixed feelings. I understand how cruel kids can be, and how rumors get started and spiral out of control. I also understand that I and our kids grew up in a very small school where everyone knew everyone.

Yes, 12 of the 13 people in the tape caused her pain and sadness. But, if you watched closely, at least some of what she said happened didn't happen that way. As the one kid, Tony, said, "it's her truth". She also had a bit of an attitude that didn't help her in some cases.

I wish they would have emphasized more that it's a permanent solution to a temporary problem. They made the parents, and teachers for that matter, look kind of like idiots. How many TENTH graders do you know talk and act like these kids did in this show? It seemed to me anyhow, they acted like young adults already out of college.

Also, how many people actually let their kids do what these kids did? Parent asks a question, the kid blows them off with a shrug or a smart remark and skulks away and the parents allow that. Really?! It wasn't that way in our house. I don't know, they made the parents look clueless and pretty much uninvolved, sometimes because the kids wanted it that way and sometimes because the parents didn't bother.

I absolutely understand where people have trouble with this show. It almost comes across as a final revenge. "I'll make you all look bad and people will hate you, so there, take that, it's all your fault. Everyone will finally feel sorry for me/about me." Sadly, it would all be forgotten in a short amount of time. If it opens up communicating between parents and kids then it could do some good. I just don't know how you can have such a deeply disturbed kid and not see anything.

I haven't read or seen this program but I don't think it would be of interest, from the descriptions. We avoided "parenting by proxy" materials. My wife and I preferred to try to stay on top of what they were thinking and experiencing so that we could discuss tough issues with them directly and live.

My daughter wanted me to watch this series so I did. Finished up last week. I should've put some warning....quit reading if you want to watch and don't know the story!!!! I just realized I gave away part of what happens. I have a lot of problem with the one kid being tormented by these tapes. He did nothing wrong but the girl who made the tapes and killed herself made him feel like he was to blame for not telling her how he felt. One of the kids kills himself because of those tapes. It's hard to like and sympathize with any of them except Clay (most are not nice kids), even though they are being tormented by the tapes. The only good thing I can see from the show is that it may have parents and kids talking about suicide and maybe bringing up issues those kids might have and therefore preventing them from doing the same. Oh, and maybe some of the jerks will see themselves and realize they need to stop. Don't think it will help with rapists though.

I watched the first episode out of curiosity. It was all so sad. I'm not planning to watch anymore.

It sounds appalling and very exploitative to me. I realized when I read about this, that his is what my 14 yr old grandson was watching on YouTube last weekend when he stayed with me. I wish I had known about it then - would have talked to him more about it. Need to let my DD know.

I do know that his middle school had a suicide a couple of years ago and the teachers spent a lot of time describing suicide as "a very permanent solution to a temporary problem". It's every parent/grandparent's worst nightmare. I cannot imagine the pain a parent must feel.

"A very permanent solution to a temporary problem" is the kind of thing grown-ups say and kids roll their eyes at. To us, it makes sense. But to them it doesn't.

I've watched three of the series and stopped. This is a fictional piece and presents itself as a normal situation which may be true somewhere but not everywhere. I have no plan on watching the rest. I see no value in it.

When my son has been at his worst moments, I'd say, let's just rest on it tonight. Then, when we got up, I'd say, do you feel differently? He always said yes. One day, I connected suicide to it. Can't remember why. At any rate, I said, See? If you can just hang on, things may change. Suicide ends that possibility. I don't know how, but it clicked. Hard. He knows now, just wait for a different perspective on a problem, making the problem "temporary". My point? You have to start young. Really young. Not talking about suicide or waiting until too late, may make it impossible for them to avoid. I feel stronger than I did before. I know that it has to be discussed in a way that kids get. I now want to go find this series.

Oh gosh, another shocker widely available that parents have to watch with their children and discuss? I suppose this is disguised as 'a learning tool'?

There's not enough 'cotton wool' in the world these days.
