13 Reasons Why on Netflix

This is a powerful series on Netflix dealing with a teen's suicide and the aftermath of that decision. She records 13 tapes on an old recorder she borrows, with each tape naming one individual who had a part in her actions. It is sometimes very difficult to watch, but if I had children/grandchildren in high school I would make sure I watch it with my kids. My kids graduated from high school 8 and 11 years ago, and while social media was around with facebook and myspace, kids were not constantly connected with camera and video documentation of their every move, and for that I am grateful. This series has garnered some criticism because some people say it glamorizes suicide and could cause suicide epidemics. I didn't see it that way, but my emotions are not magnified the way an adolescent's are and I think it is possible. There are a few episodes toward the end that have warnings due to their depiction of two sexual assaults and the realistic suicide, so this series isn't for everyone.
