Farm-house sink Vs double bowl sink

The best thing you can do for yourself is get down and climb under your present sink, the neighbor's sink, your family member's sinks, and familiarize yourself with the plumbing that's under there !! While you're down there, check for leaks, and use a ruler/tape measure to get an idea of sizes. Bathroom sinks are usually 1 1/4" diameter thinwall pipe; the tub/shower and the kitchen sink are, or should be, 1 1/2". One thing to remember: the 1 1/2" thinwall pipe hooked directly to the bottom of your sink, and tied into the "S" or "P" traps under there, is NOT NOT NOT the same as the 1 1/2" drain piping; HOWEVER--there are adapters to mate the thinwall to the heavier piping. By the way, you ARE gonna go to the store and find out what a "P" or "S" trap is, aincha?? Dont be afraid to ask Q's, and do realize many of the guys you ask are about as ignorant as you are when it comes to plumbing....many--not all of 'em. THEN: when you find somebody who sounds like (s)he can help you do this project, and they put down on paper the parts you need, the best thing you can do is repeat the process--go find somebody else at another store who can do likewise, and then compare the parts recommended, &c. Maybe this soundz like plumbing 101--you're right, it is. Anything else spellz disaster in the making, not to mention the resultant feeling you bin ripped off and jerked around, and that you coulda done a better job yourself.... if only.... you'd taken to heart the suggestion of: kenn 1RmSchlHse millersport oHIo -- there's a time and place for spontaneity.......See MoreNeed help with farmhouse sink install ASAP!
Comments (14)Sometimes a drip edge is installed below a farm sink and looks good as well as being practical. That would work for your half inch below the sink, the sides could be filled in with an overlay panel like Food shows. Google for images. Most farm sinks without an overlay panel look fine but your sink is significantly less wide than your cabinet, that is why it is more noticeable....See MoreHelp with farmhouse sink please
Comments (4)Need, You are not a candidate for Fireclay. I have a fireclay sink and love it. But I am careful about not tossing things into it that would ding or chip it. The finish is super durable and a little barkeepers friend if I have some black streaks from pots has the sink sparkling in a minute. I don't have a farm house sink but a Rohl Allia drop in. Consider a stainless steel farm house sink for your needs. Good luck!...See MoreHelp! Installing farmhouse sink
Comments (8)Not to discourage you, but it literally took my contractor 3 days to install my farmhouse sink. They were really nervous about it because they had never done it before, but luckily it came out well. Here's what they did: 1) They made a template based on the shape of the front of the sink. First they made a template out of cardboard, tested it to make sure it fit well with no gaps (they went through several iterations) and then once they got a good cardboard template they transferred it onto a piece of plywood. 2) Then they used the plywood template to cut out the front of the sink cabinet -- this was the scary part 3) Then they installed little 'shelves' (about 2" wide, running the the length of both sides of the sink cabinet) for the sink to sit on 4) The sink was 'loose' (meaning it was just sitting on the side support shelves not glued in our anything) until the counters were installed. When the counters where templated, they marked the sink in pencil (traced the outline of the sink along the cabinet edge) to show how far out it was supposed to be so that it would be in the same spot when the counters were installed. Here's how it looked in the end: My recommendation would be to find someone who has done this before... Another thing you need to decide before the counters are templated is what kind of reveal you want (positive, negative, or neutral) -- check out the atticmag.com sink gallery below for examples. I literally showed the Momto4Kids example to the templaters and told them to copy it. Here is a link that might be useful: kitchen sink gallery...See Morealways1stepbehind
