I do from time to time. I plant them in September because the heat kills them. I'm in south Brevard. But i know Brookville well. I've lived there my parents live there. It does get colder there. I think its because of the forest. You can use that to grow some fruit trees that wouldn't work in other parts of central Florida.

I bet if they were thought suitable they'd have some at least part of the year. I was there during a recent April but don't remember if any were visible at that time or not.

Thankyou so much! Nice to hear that! Roses do very well in Florida given they're on fortuniana & with spray schedules mine are beautiful! a lady in Tampa has some thatre 7 feet tall, the canes huge! But u don't c roses growing in fla unless they're knockouts or drifts. I guess people don't want to put forth the extra effort ?

At Leu they seemed to be gradually replacing the other kinds in the rose garden with Double Knockout.

i over exaggerated I do have roses that drop in heat within first day so that's not considered doing good in our heat ! But it's the dahlias I wanna know if anyone's grown!!?? pretty please all n any input well appreciated

Yeah! That's basically the only roses they sell here r knockouts! And no affense they're okay but I like the many petaled roses like the David austins or OGRs I'm so tirrd of seeing knockouts:(

I got that covered Glenn! I have peaches pears n apple trees I planted a year n half ago it's awesome but I still would rather move out of state maybe Kentucky so it's not too cold but anywhere North of this state I'd b happy with.

Every time I put them in the ground here something eats the tubers. Most likely armadillos. I grow mine in pots.

I grow tons of roses here..no knockouts. I spray nothing.

Wow!! I'm so excited thanks for the info!!! Your dahlias beautiful ashbycoop!! I did buy dinner plates and some Pom pins n single varieties all heat tolerant - I'm tickled to death! They haven't came yet but I did buy 10 bags of tubers from Walmart all growing nicely on my porch in pots but my fear is when it's time to flower bc they're not the heat resistant kind they'll fail to flower or burn in the sun. I have peony poppies growing from seed in pots also I can't wait to c the blooms never seen a poppy in real life :(

Sultry - what do u do for ur roses?? I HAVE to spray mine or the chili thrips tear them up so bad the blooms and leaves are unrecognizable- also in summer during rainy season ( brooksville gets 30% more rain than the rest of Florida ): I should've done my research before I chose the city to move to :( but if I don't spray my roses with any type of fungicide they get blackspot & leaf spot so bad they defoliate completely!! Accept for the drifts, cl cecile Brunner, prosperity, a couple kordes, my Belinda's dreams and a couple other but the remaining roses I can't get away without spraying them!! The sad thing is I HATE SPRAYING!! It disgusts me I have to spray cancer causing crud & bug spray that's terrible for the earth, beneficial insects n soil on my roses!! It breaks my heart! Bc many aren't in the ground yet Im not able to companion plant and I'm still learning ab organic ways but I would like to eventually go all organic I'm just not sure how to do it. Honestly -no offense, when others live here in Florida n say they never spray their roses I do not get that! I've tried so many times & within days they literally get mauled by every bug known to man n lose most of their leaves so I don't c how anyone can grow roses in Florida without any type of spray?? Please do tell & teach me sultry bc I'm lost as far as not spraying !!!!

I planted some tubers in part shade in Saint Pete a couple of months ago. They just started blooming for me. I hope we start getting rain soon as I'm getting tired of having to hand water them every couple of days and my well just ran dry

That's so awesome to hear!! Born & raised in St.pete, I lived there my entire life. I Moved to brooksville 2 yrs ago- I'm in a cold pocket considered 9a-9b but didn't do any research b4 moving :( apparently, Fla gets 30% more rain than the US & brooksville gets 30% more rain than fla ?? last rainy season killed many of my plants :( they rotted. The thought of this rainy season scares me to death! Last year it rained weeks at a time. only a few min here or there of sunlight. I dread the rain now :( I potted up a bunch of dahlia tubers from Walmart. All growing well but still small -I'd like to start a dahlia garden for the heat tolerant varieties I just purchased from swanIsland but there are no trees on the 3 acres we live, so it's brutally hot, all direct sun! I compare brooksvilles temps to St Pete often. Even tho we're farther north, it gets hotter here than in st Pete. Maybe bc st petes a peninsula & brooksville's inland? I bought a chaste tree & rose of Sharon to plant for shade but they're still small :( I'm half tempted to c if i can find two 10-15' trees to have planted in the yard for shade- the heat here is brutal!! Even now in spring- yesterday was 95• don't know the humidity but it had to be somewhat high bc it felt much hotter than 95 outside especially without shade :(

I live in Hudson right on the gulf and have them growing in my front yard. They were doing great until the last wind Strom came through now I have to water three times a day and brace the stalk. But they are all in bloom and look beautiful!

That's so awesome to hear I have friends in Hudson !! :) I bought a potted dahlia at Walmart it was beautiful had very pretty flowers on it but no name tag. I've had it on the back lanai and since I bought it it's put out more blooms but they're much smaller than when I bought it :( I think I'm going to do just fine with my new dahlia garden ! I might buy a shade cloth cover n have it set up just right so when afternoon direct sun hits it'll shade them. As long as our rainy seasons aren't as bad as last year here in brooksville I think they'll do just fine but have smaller flowers during the hottest months - thankyou so much for all of the beautiful pictures and the inspiration I'm so excited to get going on this garden ! I have all my bulbs but still working on the planting site - thankyou everyone !! I feel so much better ab it now
