Succulent AND Cactus I.D.?
Comments (9)you are so right! my elegans has the single outward spines and that does not! :) youre really good at this game! haha :) as for the second succulent... Im new to growing cacti and succulents but im assuming you mean like a winter dormancy.. as far as I know it shouldn't be? its been growing green "leafs" that kinda look like Sempervivum out its sides... do they grow when dormant? And if it were dormant what could i be doing wrong to it? I havent fed them any ferts and they're under a 600 watt MH with a 12/12 light schedule...See MoreCactus and Succulent ID
Comments (5)Thanks for comments! Nicholas I think you might be right. I hadn't come across purple pearl before you mentioned it that seems like a really close match. I originally thought it might have been PVN, but outer leaves don't really have the same color. And after seeing the photo I of your gibbiflora metallica Rina I might just get one of those too....See MoreCactus/ Succulent ID needed
Comments (4)I agree with Cristina, but just wanted to add the common name(s) if you're interested. It goes by mother of pearl and ghost plant, but as with most common names, there are other plants that go by ghost plant so this can lead to confusion. Also you may want to get it some faster draining soil so it doesn't stay moist too long or it could lead to rot. The type of soil you have also tends to become hydrophobic (meaning it will basically repel water) if it's too dry and can be hard to re-wet thoroughly. The cactus looks like some type of Mammiallria. Possibly M. mystax but I can't see it very well. These 2 plants have slightly different optimal growing conditions and could be difficult to keep both alive and happy....See MoreDying cactus and succulent!! Need help IDing them to fix them up
Comments (13)You could add both - I know Lena said it is not necessary (and it isn't an absolute must), but anything that will make the mix more porous is a plus. Especially if you are heavy waterer or if your plants are outdoors where it rains more often. I don't remember if you mentioned your general location (it is good to indicate by your name - as you can see most ppl do); I am in Ontario, Canada and have to bring plants inside for the winter but keep them all outdoors otherwise. All my succulents are in a mix of grit+perlite+turface and have been for almost 4 years now....See Moreairycactairy
