Compte de Chambord, I'll give her this
Comments (17)I have had Comte de Chambord and if memory serves, it bloomed twice per year, maybe a spattering of blooms other than that, and I was told mine was Baronne Prevost by several people but it was not like the BP that I owned. Unfortunately I lost both to RRD about 3 years ago. I have not replaced either as they just do not like my climate enough to keep them, lots of care required to keep them healthy, happy and after 8-9 years with BP, although her blooms smell scrumptious, I do not intend to replace either. Erfurt was my best HP. Alas, he fell to RRD as well. I tried to keep the HP/Portlands in one location secondary to the additional requirements of extra water, spraying, etc. I miss the fragrance, miss the bloom but some things might have been meant to be. Larry Daniels did not get RRD and it seems healthier in my garden. Barbara Worl was similar in health, etc., to the aforementioned. Not sure why Larry Daniels was better. RdV does better for me than the others. Portland from Glendora did very well, but that too, was one of the ones that contracted RRD....See MoreMore of Compt de Chambrod

Comments (22)Ive grown Comtes des Champagne for many years in a container. But it's dying now because I failed to change the potting mix and make the drainage holes bigger. I fell in love with this rose when I first saw a photo of it posted by Susan (Trivoli) on her rose photo albulm. The name sounds nice and the color of this rose does remind me of champagne. When this rose is young it can look cute and adorable! The colour is almost like Jude the Obscure and Wollerton Old Hall. I just love how the petals hug themselves in low light and opens up in the sun to reveal the stigmas. Scent is like licorice and honey which is strong when you sniff it. The blooms are quite fleeting and the canes are thorny. Will I grow this rose again? Maybe not since I prefer Jude the abscure's fragrance and big globular blooms. Pink is my favorite rose colour and I prefer to give Complicata and La Belle Sultane a try to make the garden more intetesting than to only grow the Dabid Austins which can look similar at times....See MoreLook what just starting coming out !!
Comments (35)Nice. Reminds me of blooms from White By The Gate. I was hand watering yesterday when temps got to 72 (but they are crashing as we speak). I wanted to hand water before the 'down spike' today and tomorrow. I noticed that some (majority?) of WBTG's buds were brown from last month when the temps got to 13. Some of those brown buds did die but a small nbr are now blooming. Non-injured buds opened and look nice. A few partly injured buds who now opened look ugly on the edges and nice in the center... probably a few petals in the buds were damaged but not all. Even discovered a bulging bud about to open in a sasanqua !!! that had already bloomed in the Fall (Nov?) ... but ironic, hu? late bloom about to open as the temps crash again. Only saw that one lonely single bloom on that one sasanqua. ;o( Stopped by a local nursery that was packed full of many japonicas. Has a nice Lady Vansittart, striped pink, but no open blooms yet. I may get Stars Stripes instead but I may also wait to see LVs blooms to see if they match what is o the plant label photo. Of course, who knows now if the buds will open. It should go down to 28F so maybe the buds will not brown out....See MorePrettypetals_GA_7-8
