Wall-to-Wall Carpet with a Rug on Top?
Comments (4)Is the carpet in just one room? And how long do you expect to live with the carpet? You know that old expression "Don't throw good money after bad?" Guess what I'm saying is to be sure that's not what you're doing here -- trying to match something you don't like and want to get rid of. One possibility -- Our house is under total renovation, so we lived with 'gotta go' carpeting in some rooms for much too long. Until one day we finally just ripped it out. The floor underneath was plywood, and honestly, it was much better looking than that ugly carpet. If we'd taken the time to paint it, it could actually have been quite presentable for a few years. So is a nice rug in colors you do like over painted wooden subfloor an option?...See MoreWhat paint/fabrics for lilac wall to wall carpet
Comments (11)Hi, Thanks for the suggestions. I have owned the home for 2 years and the carpet is at least 12 years old it has paint stains (po was an artist) and some pet stains. I know the new carpet is good quality since the offer is from someone who is in the flooring business. I want to spruce up the space anyway and this would allow my child to play on clean carpet for the cost of installation. We are doing a lot of projects and really could use the monetary savings. I like the idea of cream since it could work with my floral wallpaper up in the bathroom. I know gray is pretty but I think the natural trim may look off with it. Comments (17)It's not installed yet but I put a deposit down on patterned wall to wall in a trellis pattern for my upstairs hall and stairs (will be cut and bound as a runner - and also an area rug for downstairs. I got it on deep discount because it's been discontinued and cannot find the pattern online but this is the colorway: No border in my small space and I could not afford the coordinated runner with smaller border so we kept it simple. The pattern is a trellis pattern, which which looks like it is made of a twisted ribbon, with a small flower at each intersection. This is the only area of wall to wall in our house - every other room is hardwood or tile - but we'd have to move out while refinishing the floor under the carpet so we decided to go for a "posh hotel" style carpet in our 120 year old house. I will post pics when it is done. People don't use it much for two reasons. 1) carpet is not trendy at the moment in general 2) patterned carpet is way way way more expensive than plain carpet. I mentioned we got a closeout piece - to do the same job in the scroll pattern I posted with coordinated runner would have been over $2k for my small hall and stairs. We are paying about $1100 for what we got. To do it in a patterned berber (harlequin) would have been about $700. Patterned carpet is a pretty high end product....See MoreColor of area carpet on top blue wall to wall carpet?
Comments (19)I don't care for area rugs of any kind. I like an uninterrupted vision on a floor. Just my preference. Plus if you have nice floors why cover them up. I did have 2 in my last house (that is were I found out I don't like them) , but they never creeped, slithered, wormed, lollygaged or crawled anywhere. They did fly though, out the front door when I found out I don't like area rugs. Find a nice pattern and enjoy. You might find out you like the W/W carpet in the basement if you live in a cold weather climate. The floor is so much warmer....See MoreRelated Professionals
