Jumping for joy (with cautious optimism)...
Comments (16)Denise, I think your caudata has decided to call your place home. I love it when that happens. I have a numm cutting, two leaves at one end, and the rest, just stem. I wasn't sure it was going to do much, but just this past month, it gave me a new leaf! It is in my rooting terrarium right now. It stays moist pretty much all the time, and I try to keep the humidity in there around 50-60%. Does this mean that numm doesn't like to dry out? I don't know much about it, and I was kinda being cautious about getting too attached to it while it was in its 'could go either way' stage. My heuschkeliana cutting looked to me like it wasn't going to make it for a while, as the leaves shriveled up quite a bit, but you could almost see the moment it developed roots. It rehydrated nicely and is now also putting out new growth. I'm excited because it is the yellow form, which appeals to me a lot for some reason. I will have to try and see if I can revive my pottsii, then. I had pretty much given up on it, but if one can get leafless stumps to put out growth, then there may be hope for it yet! Because that is what it is now: leafless, and sad : (...See MoreWhat made you go crazy for Hoyas?
Comments (21)/bellegallica It depends on the plant and how early on you noticed the buds, but generally speaking it takes Hoyas a month or so to go from bud to bloom. Luckily Hoya buds are really fascinating and beautiful to watch swell and change. /squidy Your mom's plant sounds very interesting. I have to admit when you started describing it, I was imagining her pinning the vines around the kitchen window molding, but I suppose what's really happening is they are simply climbing along handy grab points on its own. :P Still, a living kitchen wreath would be really cool! I didn't have the discipline to get rid of plants when I first caught the Hoya bug, which means they are either being relocated to the office (which works well) or perishing through one accident or another. I honestly don't know how people like Mike grow multiple types of plants simultaneously with such apparent ease. I only seem to be able to manage one watering schedule at a time. So... Hoyas and anything else that likes the same type of care LOL. I'm getting into succulents on my balcony and that works. /goddess Good plan. Honestly, the vast majority of Hoyas are easy so why get into the mere handful of touchy ones until you're jonesing for a challenge? I take my time too. What were your three?...See Morere: visual joy
Comments (6)Hey group...I just received a shipment of 5 cuttings from Ted...and they are properly ID'd. I'm not so sure I totally believe this man would deliberately mislabel plants. I'm not so sure I can believe the original "story" of someone who ordered 12 different cuttings and received 12 H. australis 'tenuipes'. I think that even a novice, like myself, would easily recognize that they'd be duped and demand restitution immediately. Secondly, all of us know what the plants look like when we order them....so, if we receive something that's different there should be a "red flag". I would order from him again without any hesitation. Plus, he's very kind and humorous, and the cuttings were very generous. Just my humble opinion. Fondly, Patrick...See MoreHoya sp. Comments (0)I purchased a cutting listed as: "Hoya 'Metallica' aka Noelle" from ebay late in the season last year... and unfortunately it did not make it. The cutting did not seem that strong when it arrived and despite my best efforts it died. SOOOOOOO in my search for another I have found lots of info on 'Joy' and 'Noelle' and mixed info for the name Metallica, with it appearing for BOTH hybrids. Does anyone have more info on this? Opinions? Hoya Loas x Hoya vitellina = Joy Hoya vitellinoides x Hoya vitellina = Noelle I did find an established 'Joy' on it's way to me from Beastlyflower... so I'm very excited about that! Regardless of it maybe or maybe-not being the one referred to as Metallica. lol ~Sara...See More- 7 years ago
