Withering Seedling Sprouts

Greetings all, First time here.

Several years ago I started growing heirloom tomatoes from a garden master. Sadly, he passed on the year he took me under his wing. In memory of him I had always reseeded the first tomato plant he gave me. However, last year I skipped growing them and just started the planting two weeks ago. The seeds I used are from the fruit from a 2015 crop, I stored them in an envelope since and now their growth has been horrible. They sprouted about 3-3.5 inches in length with horse-hair girth - very small leader leafs, and now they wither and fall limp. Not sure if it is the lack of sun, or over watered, or something circumstantial. However nothing's changed in my growing method since 2012. Could the seeds be old? Improperly stored? Or have 4th generation seeds I used, tuckered out?
